Job summary

Band 4, Technical Instructor for Speech and Language Therapy - stroke rehabilitation and 'Early Supported Discharge'. Full time post ( WTE) based in Deeside Community Hospital.

We have an exciting opportunity for you to be part of a friendly and supportive team of stroke specialist therapists and support workers, under the clinical leadership of an AHP Stroke Consultant.

You will be joining a supportive and connected team of speech and language therapists and technical instructors across stroke services and other clinical settings, with regular access to clinical supervision, support, training and development. We would be very happy to arrange a visit and 'meet the team' session for anyone interested in this opportunity.

Main duties of the job

You will work as an assistant within the speech and language therapy service and stroke specialist team, based in our newly-developed stroke specialist in-patient rehabilitation unit based at Deeside Community Hospital. You will support people receiving both in-patient rehabilitation and 'early supported discharge' rehabilitation in their homes. You will be supported by our team of skilled speech and language therapists and technical instructors to deliver individual and group therapy for people during their stroke rehab journey. You will participate in delivering training programmes relating to communication and swallowing difficulties associated with stroke - for patients, families and other health and social care professionals. Previous experience of working within stroke services or with adults with communication or swallowing difficulties is important for this role, with further training being provided as necessary.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Quality Credit Framework qualification at level 3 NVQ related to Health & Social Care Proven experience of working in relevant clinical specialty at diploma equivalent level Documented evidence of participation in relevant clinical training activities

Relevant experience of working within a Therapy environment. Sound understanding of the role of Speech & Language Therapy Sound understanding of the concept of rehabilitation/recovery as appropriate to the clinical area. Basic knowledge of the principles of Clinical Governance Basic knowledge of main conditions relevant to area of speciality and the effects of illness on function. Awareness of Health & Safety legislation & practices. Proven ability to apply knowledge following training Self-motivation for Continued Professional Development
