Job summary

To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to provide a high quality clinical orthotic service, incorporating detailed assessment, measurement, fitting and review of patients based on current good practice and evidence based orthotic treatment.

Adhere to departmental policies, protocols, guidelines and standards for Orthotic provision.

Develop and promote the Orthotic Service in liaison with the senior clinical staff. Liaise with Consultants, Clinicians, Therapists, Orthotic colleagues and managers as required to provide an efficient and effective Orthotic Service.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking and driven Orthotist who wishes to be challenged and to join us in driving the department and profession forward. They must enjoy team-working and a genuine passion for innovation and advancement of the profession is post-holder will be supported within our department structure by the Clinical Specialists and Lead Orthotist and be offered full training and development opportunities.

Applicants must be HCPC registered and preferably members of BAPO.

About us

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our in-house Orthotics team at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. Guy's and St Thomas' is one of the largest hospital Trusts in the country, with a staff of over 25,000 and million patient contacts a year. The Trust comprises two of London's oldest and best-known teaching hospitals. The Orthotic Department is based at Bowley Close Rehabilitation Centre, a purpose- designed building with specialist staffing, equipment and facilities necessary for the assessment and treatment of people with disabilities. Our services include:

Rehabilitation Consultant-led MDTs Orthotics Amputee Rehabilitation Wheelchairs and Specialist Seating Assistive Technology Counselling

We provide an award-winning level of service to residents across London, adjacent areas and nationally. The Orthotics Services operate at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals, King's College Hospital and several rehabilitation units and local child development centres, bringing with this role a huge opportunity to be exposed to interesting and varied caseloads.

Job responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities are;

Clinical Practice: To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to provide a high quality clinical orthotic service, incorporating assessment, measurement, fitting and review of patients based on current good practice and evidence based orthotic treatment.

Supervision and Leadership

Personal and Professional Duties: To be responsible for own personal/professional status and development evidenced by Personal Development Plan/ Professional Portfolio and attend relevant training and development in order to ensure the maintenance of good practice in the Orthotic profession

Service Development : Contribute to the development of the service, working in line with the national and local quality, productivity and other development agendas.

Collaborative and Partnership Working: Participate in joint professional initiatives across care pathways, other disciplines, and partner agencies to improve the efficiency of the service as delegated by the lead clinician.

Quality and Clinical Governance: Support the development of evidence based practice through participation in new and innovative approaches to Orthotic practice.

Financial: Assist in the monitoring and purchase of stock/supplies minimising the supplier base and improving quality, as directed by the lead clinician.
