Working as part of a motivated, supportive, and friendly team this role provides the opportunity not just to ensure effective peer support is delivered to an increasing number of our patients, but to help shape the future of peer support across Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust.
The crucial role of Senior Peer Support Worker has been developed specifically for people who have lived/living experience of recovery from mental health challenges and experience of professionally utilising those experiences within mental health settings through peer support roles.
We are looking for people who are positive, empathetic, supportive, and non-judgemental and are willing and able to put forward creative solutions and help to make those happen. Training will be provided in key areas but primarily we are looking for people with the right values (with our services users at the very centre of what we do) to support us in our ambition to ensure effective peer support is embedded across all of our services.
Main duties of the job
Provide robust and regular individual and group supervision for PSW roles, providing support for reflective practice development
Help ensure clarity of the PSW role at service level by providing both written and verbal guidance and support in collaborative way
Support and help co-ordinate the delivery of appropriate training, learning, and development activities for PSW roles
Undertake service team development activities to ensure awareness and understanding of the PSW role both before and once in-post
Help devise and support appropriate recruitment processes for PSWs, including participating in interview panels
Support the design of and help deliver appropriate PSW induction programmes
Be 'PSW Ambassadors' regarding the positive case for PSW roles with the Trust
Support the development of guidance across the Trust for the effective implementation of PSW roles. In particular, the development of guidance for PSWs coming into post and for service teams developing PSW roles
Provide high-level information and guidance to those undertaking the PSW application process regarding systems and processes ( timescales, key steps etc.)
To work in collaboration with the Peer Support Worker Programme Manager and other senior peer support workers to co-produce ( design, implement and review) Trust-wide peer support documents and initiatives focused on improvement

The Senior PSW role has been developed specifically for people who have lived/living experience of recovery from mental health challenges & experience of professionally utilising these experiences within mental health settings through peer support roles.
The Senior PSW will support in developing an end-to-end support pathway for our PSWs. The post holder will provide high quality individual supervision to PSWs working within services including group supervision.
They will also support the development & implementation of more effective Trust-wide systems for the development and introduction of PSW roles.
The role will also have an important role in embedding recovery values within the service settings in which they work.

Professional & Personal DevelopmentThe post holder must ensure that they are aware of their responsibilities by attending the Trust Mandatory Training & Induction Programme.
The post holder will be involved in a formal appraisal & yearly conversations review with their manager at least every 12 months. Once performance / training objectives have been set, the staff members progress will be reviewed on a regular basis, so that new objectives can be agreed & set, in order to maintain progress in the service delivery.
The post holder will be expected to take responsibility for their own professional development & will be supported by the Trust to achieve development opportunities as appropriate.
Confidentiality & Information GovernanceConfidentiality is of prime importance. In the normal course of duties, the post holder will have access to confidential documents and information relating to patients, service users, staff & contractors, as well as information of a commercially sensitive nature. Such information should not be communicated to anyone outside or inside the NHS unless done in the normal course of carrying out the duties of the post. Disciplinary action will be considered where a breach of confidence has been established.
All information obtained or held during the post-holders period of employment that relates to the business of the Trust & its service users & employees will remain the property of the Trust. All Trust sites have been designated a no smoking area. The post holder is therefore advised smoking is not permitted within the hospital premises or grounds or whilst representing the Trust in the course of their duty.
