Main duties of the job

The Medical Secretary role is to providegeneral secretarial support to the Practice Manager, Doctors, and HealthcareProfessionals. To assist GPs withprocessing patient referrals, to obtain results/information as necessary, andcarry out other administrative tasks for the surgery.

Experience of working within the NHS is anadvantage. Medical background preferredbut not essential. Full support and training will be given.

The ideal candidate would have excellent wordprocessing/Microsoft Windows skills.Experience of Lexacom and Systmone preferred, along with knowledge of Medicalterminology. Strong attention to detailand accuracy. Experience of digital/audiotyping. Good communication skills, bothwritten and verbal. Able to work underpressure/prioritising work load. Job description

Job responsibilities

Typingpatient NHS and private referral letters, medical reports, patient supportletters, invoices and responding to clinical correspondence from hospitals etc.

Raisingreferral requests on the e-Referral System.

Ensuring allurgent referrals are typed and processed within the required timeframe, and areprocessed via most appropriate channel ensuring all necessary documentationaccompanies the referral to prevent referrals being rejected and held up in theprocess.

Contactingpatient's for information in support of NHS funding applications required forsome referrals.

Ensuringconcise audit trail of work in patient's records on Systmone.

Communicatingwith hospitals and clinics regarding patient referrals.

Managingreferral worklists on the e-Referral Service.

Dealing with dayto day task queries from doctors and other staff members.

Generaloffice duties including but not limited to photocopying, emailing, answeringtelephone calls & dealing with queries.
