An exciting job opportunity has arisen to recruit an experienced 8b Clinical Psychologist to join our newly commissioned Counter Terrorism Clinical Consultancy Service (CTCCS).

The CTCCS is a joint team with Counter Terrorism Policing and the NHS. The service aims to support Counter Terrorism Case Officers (CTCOs) in identifying and addressing mental health needs individuals may be experiencing and understanding and managing risks they may pose, thereby mitigating CT risk and improving the mental health and wellbeing of those individuals. Referrals to the team include adults and young people from diverse backgrounds and a broad range of presenting needs and risks. The CTCCS is a formulation-based service and the team have enhanced working knowledge of NHS and third sector services and experience of navigating care pathways and multiagency working across a range of services including health, social care and criminal justice.

Main duties of the job

You will work alongside an experienced team of Clinical Psychologists, Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, Forensic Mental Health Nurses and Police Officers. In your role you will gather information on referrals and make recommendations based on a robust assessment and formulation. In partnership with CTCOs, you will liaise with professionals across agencies to make appropriate referrals and provide case consultation to promote coordinated intervention, support and risk management.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience of working with adults and / or young people with mental disorders, psychological difficulties, neurodiversity and complex needs and risks across forensic mental health settings, including community, custody and secure hospitals. It is expected that they will have will knowledge and experience of partnership working across health, social care and criminal justice agencies. Relevant knowledge and experience of working with hard to reach groups would be an advantage.

The post holder will have to participate in the Psychology out of hours on-call provision as part of Trust business continuity plans.

The team operate a hybrid model of working from home and from Counter Terrorism Policing sites across the West Midlands, East Midlands and Wales.

Qualifications

Essential

Satisfactory completion of a British Psychological Society accredited Doctoral Level postgraduate professional training course in clinical psychology (the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996), the completion of which includes the study of models of psychopathology, psychometric and neuropsychological assessment, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology. Eligibility for entry onto the Register of Chartered Psychologists

Post-doctoral training in one or more highly specialist areas of psychological practice / therapy

Experience

Essential

Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical/forensic psychologist for a minimum of 4 years post qualification, with a minimum of at least 2 years at the Senior (highly specialist) level. Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, with clients of all ages across the lifespan and of wide-ranging presenting problems that reflect the full spectrum of clinical complexity and severity.

Desirable

Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts. Experience of working therapeutically with 'difficult to treat' and or 'hard to reach' groups and clients in community settings Experience of safeguarding and risk management across several agencies, including appropriately escalating concerns

Essential

Highly developed theoretical and practical knowledge of the field of clinical psychology, consistent with doctoral level professional training and further post qualification study, training and supervised experience during a minimum of 4 years as a qualified psychologist Skills in providing consultation and advice from a psychological perspective to members of other professional and non-professional groups. Awareness and understanding of the differential needs of people from black and minority ethnic groups and of the service issues arising within a multicultural urban area.
