We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant secondary school in Braintree. Starting in September, this full-time position offers the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students who require additional behavioural and emotional support. You will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and other support assistants to create a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with behavioural and emotional challenges.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs).
  • Support classroom teachers in managing classroom behaviour and promoting a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Foster strong relationships with students to build trust and encourage positive behaviour.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, including any changes in behaviour or engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members to develop and implement strategies to support students' behavioural and emotional needs.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and effectiveness in this role.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within a school setting.
  • A good understanding of behaviour management strategies and techniques.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt to the needs of individual students and the wider school environment.
  • An Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).

Desirable:

  • Qualifications related to education, childcare, or special educational needs.
  • Experience working with students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour interventions.
