Castle Ward is a purpose built 19 bedded female acute mental health ward situated at the Peter Hogkinson Centre with a range of facilities including a separate therapy area, activity rooms and physiotherapy gym
As a valued team member of the acute therapy team, you will be working deliver occupational therapy provision to those admitted to Castle ward, focusing on occupational performance, complex mental health presentations, risk management aligned to personalised care plans. The role involves implementation and facilitation of individual and group interventions in collaboration with OT assistants, activity workers and other professionals for effective recovery and discharge
The role sits within the acute therapy team where we support and embrace continuing practice development opportunities, including sensory modulation, cognitive screening and mindfulness. All our services use the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) for assessment and treatment with a strong focus on supporting patients in their recovery journey, with ample support for specific training and peer supervisions around it's use.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the comprehensive mental health treatment & assessment of adults and their care givers who are referred to Connolly and Charlesworth ward at PHC.
The post holder will be required to deliver interventions/treatment to patients whilst under care of the 2 Acute wards.
The post holder will provide specific occupational therapy interventions and professional advice and support to other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Job description
Job responsibilities
To provide a high standard of clinical care ensuring safe and effective assessment, treatment and comprehensive discharge planning using highly developed clinical reasoning skills and appropriate assessment tools. This will include a balance of both generic and specific OT work.
This role will primarily work with working age adults however where team demands require support or a service user has specific need for OT the role may extend to work with adults over 65.
To delegate aspects of the patient treatment plan to other members of the team, whilst maintaining overall responsibility for patients mental health care, where appropriate.
To ensure the clinical caseload and clinical practice of occupational therapists in the team is of the highest standard of clinical care.
To manage referrals and service delivery in accordance with and in order to contribute towards the attainment of Service/Trust productivity requirements.
To communicate and liaise with others to ensure appropriate assessments, interventions and reviews are in place.
Work with individuals to assess their mental health, recognise mental illness and identify their related needs and circumstances; and enable them and/or their care givers to understand, manage and where appropriate change their behaviour to facilitate discharge.
Plan, implement, review and improve interventions to meet peoples identified needs and manage their inherent risk to facilitate discharge.
To assess carers and familys needs and signpost or refer them to the relevant support.
Protect people from abuse, neglect and harm.
Enable individuals to develop independent living skills to facilitate discharge to their residence of choice.
To work collaboratively and promote effective working relationships with members of the multi-disciplinary team.
To maintain accurate and timely clinical records and to co-ordinate and monitor those of the team.
To adhere to HCPC code of professional conduct and ethics, plus associated legislation.
