Job summary

We are looking for a Medical Receptionist wanting to join a well-organised and friendly practice. We have branches in Blackhall and Peterlee, which are easily accessible from Durham, Sunderland and Hartlepool. We have a list size of approximately 10,000 patients.

We are looking to recruit an experienced medical receptionist with excellent customer service skills, literacy and communication skills.

Main duties of the job

Candidates should be committed and enthusiastic and should ideally have experience working within a GP surgery.

Main duties will include:

Welcoming patients, checking them in for appointments and informing them of any delays Booking and rearranging appointments for patients Processing prescription requests Dealing with queries from external agencies Being the link person between clinicians and patients Informing patients of test results in line with GP instructions Advising patients of relative charges for non-NHS services and taking payment Action requests for ambulance transport Action requests for home visits Signpost patients to other services where appropriate

Have excellent communication and customer service skills. Have excellent telephone skills. Have capacity to work calmly under pressure. Are conscientious and hard working. About us

We are a 10,000 patient practice based over 2 sites. We have 4 GP Partners, 4 salaried GPs, a nursing team of 11 (including ANPs, NPs, Practice Nurses, HCAs a TNA and HCA Apprentices). We have a variety of support staff including a social prescribing team, practice pharmacists, a first contact Mental Health practitioner and a first contact Physio.

We have a reception/administration team of 13 across both sites.

We are a supportive and proactive practice. We recognise the increased pressure within General Practice and offer a supportive environment.

We are a training practice for both medical students and GP Trainees and encourage development within the practice.

Our Practice has a Good rating by CQC and we are committed to investing and improving the medical care we provide for our patients.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The purpose of the role is to:-

Offer general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visits, either in person or via the telephone.

Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.

Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist the smooth running of the surgery to support clinical staff and other members of the practice team.

To act as a focal point of communication between the GPs, receptionist, Managers, local pharmacies and other members of the primary health care team.

Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies.

Qualifications

Essential

Good standard of general education GCSE grade C or above in english and maths

Desirable

Medical receptionist qualification NVQ level 2 in customer service

Experience

Essential

Experience of working in a customer service environment Experience of using computers in daily role

Desirable
