About the Role


As our Global Editor, The Insurer, you will: 

Oversee, lead and motivate the editorial teams in London and the US 

Set editorial agendas, including the direction for news coverage to ensure we produce timely and top quality journalism 

Foster and manage senior market relations as well as direct the strategic direction of the business and our coverage

Ensure delivery and quality of all scheduled content produced by our editorial teams across The Insurer and its sister publications

Identify priorities for hiring and help recruit top talent 

Develop opportunities to further integrate The Insurer into Reuters and leverage the wider newsroom’s resources 

Ensure our journalists adhere to the journalistic ethics as set out in the Trust Principles 

Work with the Global Managing Editor, Newsroom, to discover and foster talent, differentiate performance and promote diversity 

Manage interactions with the commercial team to ensure they can continue to grow the business while maintaining the editorial independence of The Insurer newsroom 

Represent The Insurer at events organized by the business and external organizations 


About You:  
To be our Managing Editor, The Insurer, you will likely have: 

At least 10 years’ experience in a senior financial editorial leadership role, ideally leading a multi-disciplinary team working across text, graphics and video

Outstanding journalistic skills and good judgement 

A proven ability to create a high-performance culture by managing effectively, differentiating performance, developing talent, and building diverse teams.

An ability to articulate and implement a wider strategic plan for both daily coverage and longer-term ambitions.

Must be able to see the big picture whilst managing competing priorities and show decisiveness and superb judgement to achieve this.

Significant financial journalism experience.

Knowledge of the insurance industry is a plus, but we expect qualified candidates to have the managerial skills necessary to learn from our expert team whilst bringing out the best from them.

Experience working with a commercial team to build the newsroom in a way that strengthens our commercial aims
