Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Foundation Trust caters for a population of 310,000. There is an Integrated Children’s Service with combined Hospital and Community services within our Child Health Directorate. The Child Health Directorate sits within the Surgical Division and the directorate covers all areas of Paediatric and Child Health services in both Acute and Community settings. Close relationships at management level are in place between the Acute, Community and Mental Health Providers to promote integrated child health services across both hospital and community sectors.

We are looking to appoint a Junior Clinical Fellow in Paediatrics and Neonates. The post holder’s performance will be reviewed every 6 months and if deemed satisfactory will continue in the post. The role is based at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, and the post holder will work across all children and neonatal areas including Rainbow Ward, the Neonatal Unit, the Paediatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC) and Outpatients Clinics. The post holder will actively contribute to the delivery of the Paediatric service within the directorate and to maintaining a high standard of care. The successful applicant will be expected to play a full part in complying with all aspects of clinical governance.

An Enhanced DBS with Children's barred list will be undertaken for the successful candidate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The appointee will be responsible for:

Assisting in Ward Rounds on Rainbow Ward and the Neonatal Unit and completing all jobs. Accepting paediatric referrals from GPs, A&E and seeing children in the PECC in a timely fashion. Completing discharge summaries in a timely manner. Attending to any emergencies immediately, including on Labour Ward.

The appointee will be part of the on - call rota for Tier 1 on week days, weekends and nights. The banding of pay will commence following a 2-4week period of observation as a supernumerary doctor, allowing for exposure to the trusts day to day workings. You will be working alongside another junior doctor and expected to take part in daily activities and on review you will then commence on the rota.

Opportunities:

There will be opportunity for Outpatient experience. There will also be ample opportunities to get involved in clinical audits and guidelines. You will be offered similar training opportunities as a trainee junior doctor and encouraged and supposed to follow a paediatric career pathway.

Full GMC Registration M.B., Ch.B or equivalent Completed Foundation Y1 competencies or equivalent.

Experience

Understanding and awareness of particular requirements and demands of working with children and their parents. Should have previously worked within the NHS or had clinical attachment within the NHS Demonstrates reflective approach to practice and commitment to personal development
