Job summary

The role of the Lead Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) in UHSussex NHS Trust Emergency Department will be to take strategic leadership responsibility for ensuring the delivery of person-centred, safe and effective patient care by ACPs. They will provide direction and guidance on clinical practice and development for Credentialed ACPs and Trainee ACPs (tACPs) by establishing effective clinical supervision, educational supervision, managerial support, and associated governance arrangements. They will be responsible for developing new policies and implement best practice so that our highly skilled ACP workforce continues to develop and work effectively to meet the needs of the patients in UHSussex NHS Trust's Emergency Department, Urgent Treatment Centre, Acute SDEC and Frailty SDEC.

Main duties of the job

Managerial

Ensure robust supervision arrangements are in place for all ACPs and tACP within UHSx. Ensure support for the Lead Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP), and the ENP/ECP's team generally. Undertake professional development planning with ACPs and tACPs to identify opportunities for growth and development Ensure annual appraisal and revalidation arrangements are in place for all ACPs and ensure a training board is provided for tACPs. Lead and support in recruitment of new ACPs, tACPs and ENPs in conjunction with the Lead ENP Supervise and support tACP including arranging clinical training programmes.

Job responsibilities

Develop a post credentialled training programme in ensure career progression for our credentialled ACPs

Workforce accountability for the line management of Trainee Emergency Nurse Practitioners (band 6), Emergency Nurse Practitioners (Band 7), Emergency Department Practitioners/trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners (Band 7) and Advanced Clinical Practitioners (Band 8a)

Work with Divisional Matrons to support the day-to-day running of the Emergency Department and Acute medical units providing senior support as required.

Responsible for practitioner recruitment and selection process.

Conduct annual appraisals for practitioner teams.

Delegating the organisation of work to members of the team.

Represents the Division at appropriate meetings.

Contribute to and support achieving performance and access targets.

Responsible for managing the practitioner workforce to achieve performance and policy.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

Professional Registration with either NMC, HCPC or GPhC. MSc Advanced Practice or equivalent / other MSc mapped to the four pillars of advanced practice. Able to demonstrate competence at an advanced practice level through Royal College or HEE Credentialing Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.

Desirable

Relevant NHS Leadership qualification Significant demonstratable experience of working as an autonomous practitioner in within the relevant specialty such as Geriatric Medicine, Palliative Care or Intermediate care/community rehab services
