Job summary

This post will be based at the Satellite Radiotherapy Unit (SRU), but the post holder will be line managed by the Radiotherapy Physics Computing Section Manager at VCC. The post holder will maintain strong links between the Radiotherapy Physics services at SRU and VCC to ensure equity of patient care and streamlined processes across both centres.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

Take responsibility for ensuring the safe delivery of Radiotherapy at the Satellite Radiotherapy Unit (SRU) in conjunction with other Medical Physics Experts (MPEs) and senior staff within the Radiotherapy Department, with particular concentration on all aspects of computing related medical devices within the service including Treatment Planning Systems, Dose Calculation Software and Oncology Information Systems. Act as MPE under the IR(ME)R 2017 legislation across all areas of external beam radiotherapy Provide specialist advice at MPE level to multidisciplinary teams and provide advice on the most complex patient treatment plans, radiobiology and dosimetric issues. Apply extensive specialist experience in radiotherapy scientific computing and will be the lead MPE in radiotherapy computing based at the SRU.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

First or second degrees in physics or related discipline MSc or equivalent in medical physics Registration as a Clinical Scientist with the HCPC RPA2000 Certificate of Competence to act as an MPE demonstrating knowledge significantly beyond Clinical Registration Extensive specialist knowledge in radiotherapy scientific computing and its legal and statutory requirements

Desirable

PhD in Medical Physics or similar Advanced Mathematics.

Experience

Essential

Extensive experience in Radiotherapy to MPE level Extensive specialist experience in radiotherapy scientific computing

Skills & Attributes

Essential

Able to communicate difficult scientific issues to scientists and non-scientists with good verbal, written and audio-visual production & presentation skills. Able to demonstrate effective implementation of positive change in service development
