Job summary

An opportunity has arisen on the Discharge Lounge (DL) for a Band 5 Staff Nurse working hours per week.

If you are passionate about providing the highest standards of care to patients and would like to develop your skills and knowledge further we would like to hear from you.

The Discharge Lounge is a unique area of the hospital that provides a comfortable environment to support patients who have been discharged from the ward and are waiting to go home.

Patients are primarily cared for in reclining chairs, although occasionally beds will also be required. The key to this role is provision of personal care and therefore a warm and empathetic demeanour is essential.

The DL can be a busy environment with up to 30 patients per day. Working hours are to , Monday to Friday and to at weekends and includes the following shift patterns.

Main duties of the job

Under the supervision of the ward manager the nurse is responsible for the provision, organisation and direction of nursing care of the patients in his/her care. To communicate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and high quality care is provided to all patients.

This entails the risk assessment of all situations, the taking of appropriate actions and reporting of all incidents, near misses and hazards, and a statutory duty of care for their own personal safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.

Responsibility for Teaching

Take personal responsibility for developing and maintain own knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness in conjunction with NMC guidance Attend mandatory training as directed by Trust In conjunction with the ward manager, help create and maintain a suitable learning environment for staff and students and act as a mentor in the supervision and teach of less experienced staff.
