Job overview

The role of Theatre Equipment Management Lead is an integral part of the Equipment Management Team supporting the Service Manager – Equipment & Stock and senior clinical team in providing a cohesive support service for all medical and surgical equipment utilised intheatres.

Main duties of the job

The Theatre Equipment Management Supervisor is responsible for:

·Liaising with the Theatre Equipment & Stock Manager/Matron regarding the maintenance, safe storage, and usage of all medical and surgical equipment within the operatingtheatres.

·Supporting the clinical staff in the use of, and training for specialist/new equipment within the operatingdepartment.

·Trouble-shooting equipment problems and escalating as necessary to either the Equipment Manager, Medical engineering, or externalcontractors.

·Liaising with Medical Engineering regarding the timely maintenance/servicing of all in- house maintained medical and surgicalequipment.

·Liaising with external contractors regarding the maintenance medical and surgical equipment on repair/replacementcontracts.

·Assisting in the maintenance of an equipment register for all medical and surgical equipment within thedepartment.

·Supervising Band 4 Equipment Management Assistant(s).

·Provide and coordinate training of new medical equipment by liaising with the PDN team and medical device training team in the trust.

·Facilitate the process of trialling new medical equipment by liaising with Procurement and EBME Team.

·Ensure all equipment at Mile-end hospital theatres are serviced and maintained.

·Managing equipment team roster.

·Deputising for service manager – Equipment & Stock.

·Completing risk assessments for all obsolete and broken equipment in RLH & MEH Theatres.

BSc Degree (Biomedical Sciences or Clinical Engineering) or equivalent qualification/training and experience Evidence of continuing education and development

Recognised management qualification or equivalent experience

Recent experience of managing groups of staff Extensive experience of managing theatre equipment; including purchasing, contract management and management of resources and budgets. Experience of completing risk assessment relating medical equipment.

Desirable criteria

Experience of putting together a business case and contributing to its implementation Experience and knowledge of theatres equipment and supply chain system such as Atticus, NHSSC Experience of participating in clinical governance initiatives Experience of maintaining and using databases

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Knowledge and awareness of issues affecting NHS acute hospitals. Adequate knowledge of procurement
