Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in Paediatric Neuromuscular Disorders (Band 8a)

A rare opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced physiotherapist to lead the Neuromuscular Physiotherapy team at Great Ormond Street Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled paediatric physiotherapist with expertise in neuromuscular disorders. The post holder will be a dynamic team leader who can drive the service forward through the evolving and advancing field of neuromuscular medicine.

Main duties of the job

This post will provide highly specialist assessment skills for children and young people with a range of Neuromuscular disorders from across the UK. The post holder will use expert knowledge of evidence-based treatment options and/or consensus on best practice to recommend treatment/management plans for the local therapists. This post will also be responsible for leading the clinical physiotherapy team, providing expert teaching, clinical supervision and operational management of the team. They will work with the neuromuscular physiotherapy team , wider MDT and Head of Service in developing the physiotherapy service.

Degree or equivalent qualification in Physiotherapy Health Professional Council Registration Higher degree or appropriate post graduate training to recognised equivalent level Continued professional development - in clinical and leadership

Membership of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and appropriate clinical interest groups eg. ACPRC

Experience/Knowledge

Essential

Extensive post graduate experience in paediatric physiotherapy experience as a lead clinician within a specialist service Experience of working with a neuromuscular caseload including those with severe complex needs and comorbidities. Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, presenting with the full range of clinical severity across primary, secondary, and tertiary care. Experience of representing physiotherapy within the context of multi-disciplinary care. Experience of the application of physiotherapy in different cultural contexts, of working in a multicultural framework and actively promoting anti-racism and inclusive practice Previous training in and/or experience of working within specialist neuromuscular service Experience in interpreting gait analysis, prescribing orthotics, and contracture management Understanding of professional development issues and NHS reform, legal and professional issues of child protection, inclusion, privacy & data protection Experience of teaching or training

Desirable

Experience of working with children and families in a wide range of settings including community MDTs, education and social care Experience of leading on clinical research, audit or service development.
