and main responsibilities To act as a focal point of communication for the Consultant and his/her team regarding any patient requiring procedure and their operating schedule, ensuring the Consultant’s operating diary is accurately maintained. Dealing promptly with incoming correspondence, telephone calls and enquiries from patients, wards and medical staff, in a professional and courteous manner. The post holder with work closely with the Operational Support Manager, Elective Admissions Team, 18 week RTT Team, Secretaries, Nursing and Ward Staff, along with Theatre Staff, Anesthetists and Surgeons. Tact, persuasive skills and empathy will be required when speaking to patients who may be nervous or anxious about their forthcoming procedure or who are upset or angry because their procedure has had to be cancelled or postponed. There may be barriers to understanding when speaking with patients or their relatives because of cultural or language differences.

Essential criteria

Educated to diploma level or equivalent degree, or equivalent experience Good general GCSE grade English/Maths

ECOL or equivalent qualification

Experience of working within the NHS or other healthcare setting Experience of working in a busy and demanding office environment

Experience of working in a hospital or customer service based role Ability to supervise the work of others
