We are a 22 bed inpatient ward and an adjacent paediatric assessment unit in which we treat children aged from new-born to 18 years old with a broad range of paediatric conditions including surgery, oncology, orthopaedics and ENT.

The unit is supported by a friendly, dedicated and highly skilled medical team and, as a Band 5 nurse, you will also benefit from the support of 14 Band 6 Sisters and an excellent team of Nursery Nurses, Registered Nursing Associates and your fellow Band 5 Nurses.

We also have our assessment unit which is open 24/7 which provides a wide range of acute inpatient referrals as well as outpatient clinics.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for providing safe and effective care to all children (aged 0 18) requiring admission on the Childrens Unit/Paediatric Assessment Unit of Emergency Department. They are responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of evidence based individualised patient care within the boundaries of their role. The post holder will contribute to the continuing development of standards of care including developments of nursing standards and monitoring of outcomes. The post holder will be expected tocontinue with their own professional development.

Caring for child aged 0-18 years old with a variety of medical and surgical conditions.

Assessment and implementation of care.

Working with children and families.

Person Specification

Eduacation

Essential

First Level Registered Children's Nurse. Current/live registration with the Nursing Midwifery Council

Desirable

Level 3 Safeguarding Children FLAP Course

Experience

Essential

Recent experience nursing children in an acute / community setting or recently completed a Return to Paediatric Nursing course. Able to demonstrate effective consolidation of nursing knowledge and practice after qualification and Preceptorship. Working within a multi-disciplinary team environment.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

Excellent written and verbal communication. Literate. Ability to document details clearly and accurately. Good interpersonal skills and is able to deal with difficult/sensitive situations. Ability to prioritise and organise own workload.

Desirable

An understanding of the structure for the delivery for Community and social care services.
