Consultant Anaesthetics

The role will involve provision of elective anaesthetic services across the range of our surgical specialties. This includes orthopaedics and trauma, general surgery, urology, gynaecology, ENT, oral surgery and obstetrics. Our pre-assessment nurse team is well established and we seek a new consultant to lead development of the service to support elective service delivery.

The on call is currently 1:12. We expect this to reduce with recruitment and retirements in the next two years.

The Great Western Hospital is a District General Hospital built through the Private Finance Initiative in 2002; it has 560 beds and a 12 bedded Critical Care Unit. The Trust provides general planned and emergency services to the local populations.

The function of the Anaesthetics Department is to provide excellence in anaesthesia and a comprehensive and modern service throughout the Trust. This is achieved by running a well-coordinated and integrated service that is sensitive to the changing needs and requirements of patients and medical colleagues. Training of medical, paramedical and nursing staff forms a vital role in the policy of the Department.
