This post if for 12 months and will enable the successful applicantto consolidate their cardiology training with a year of specialist training inall aspects of complex devices including extraction in a busy tertiary referralcentre.

LeedsTeaching Hospitals NHS Trust is a large acute NHS Trust which is responsiblefor a comprehensive range of healthcare services to a local population of 3million patients. Leeds General Infirmary performs in excess of 1000implantable device procedures per annum. Training opportunities will betailored to the successful candidate, taking level of experience and trainingneeds into consideration. The successful candidate will receive practicalexperiential training in basic and complex device procedures, leadless pacing,conduction system pacing, sub-cutaneous ICD implantation and device troubleshooting and follow up. As a high volume regional extraction centre, thesuccessful candidate will also have opportunities to gain experience in thefield of trans-venous lead extraction techniques.

In addition to lab experience and training, thesuccessful applicant will be given opportunities to contribute to our existingresearch program and quality improvement projects.

Main duties of the job

Thispost would be suitable for applicants with CCT (or within one year) inCardiology who already have training in cardiac device implantation, but wishto increase their experience and procedural numbers. There is no GeneralCardiology on-call commitment.

Thepost would consist of a weekly commitment of 3 all day cath lab sessions whichwould include: assessment and evaluation of patients undergoing deviceprocedures, performing device procedures under supervision and to be involvedin post-procedure device management.

Inaddition there would be a weekly commitment of one heart failure clinic(focussed around complex devices), as well as opportunities to lead on clinicalservice devloment, research and lead on the local box change MDT pathway.

The post-holder will be encouraged to attend relevantcourses and meetings throughout the year as appropriate and to submit researchposters or clinical cases.

INFORMATIONABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Thisappointment will be based at the West Yorkshire Heart Centre, Leeds GeneralInfirmary, one of the largest and most modern tertiary cardiac centres in theUK, serving a population of over 3 million. There are 6 state of the artCardiac Catheter laboratories, with over 2000 PCIs, including 24/7 primary PCI,over 900 invasive electrophysiology/cardiac ablations and in excess of 700implantable device procedures per annum, making the West Yorkshire Heart Centreone of the highest volume units in the UK. The TAVI service is the largest inthe UK outside of London. In addition, cardiac MRI, adult congenitalcardiology, paediatric cardiology and interventional paediatric cardiology, aswell as adult and paediatric cardiac surgical services, all complement eachother within the same site.

Thedepartment consists of 2 inpatient wards (one acute admissions cardiologyward), a day case interventional ward, a day case seated suite, 6 lab cathetersuite and a 10 bed CCU.

Thepost is fixed term for one year (starting August 2021), with options to extendif mutually agreed.

Thecandidate should have achieved competency in basic and complex deviceimplantation in line with their Speciality training programme at a levelapproaching or having achieved CCT (or equivalent).

Candidatesmust be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license topractice at the time of application.

DUTIESOF THE POST

Thecandidate will be expected to provide supervised input into the care of devicepatients. The post would be ideally suited to those approaching or havingachieved CCT (or equivalent) in cardiology with a subspecialty interest incomplex devices. The role will include outpatient and inpatient management,device implantation and follow up. There will be an expectation to becomeinvolved in leading service evolution and waste reduction programmes.

Thesuccessful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the departmentsresearch and clinical trials programme.A tailored training programme will be negotiated around previousexperience, and professional development plans.

Whilst there is no formal commitment to out ofhours work, there will be opportunities to contribute to gaps on the StR on allrota where appropriate. The applicant should be aware that this will mean onlybasic salary will be paid. There will be opportunities to take part in the StRon call rota if there are gaps, but this should not interfere with the day today commitments of the fellowship post.

LEVELSOF RESPONSIBILITY

Responsibilitywill be dependent on prior experience and will be tailored to the successfulapplicant.

It is expected that the levels ofresponsibility will be that of ST7 or above, and the successful candidate willreceive supervision from a named consultant with responsibility to develop theindividuals training e-portfolio or equivalent.

TEACHINGAND RESEARCH/STUDY AND TRAINING

Thedevice fellow will have opportunities to attend local weekly teaching andmonthly educational departmental meetings, and will be supported to attendnational and international meetings and educational events.

Thesuccessful applicant will be required to provide teaching for colleagues andtrainees, and will be expected to provide evidence of feedback in line withgood medical practice guidelines.

Trainingopportunities will be tailored to the successful candidate, taking level ofexperience and training needs into consideration. The successful candidate willreceive extensive training in basic and complex device procedures, leadlesspacing, sub-cutaneous ICD implantation and device trouble shooting and followup.

As a high volume regional extraction centre, thesuccessful candidate will also have opportunities to gain experience in thefield of trans-venous lead extraction techniques.
