Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated Senior Clinical Psychologist (Band 8a), to join us in our Community CAMHS Team, here at Sheffield Children's Hospital NHS FT. You'll be joining us at an exciting time of development and expansion in our team and would have an active role supporting the team through this process.

In Sheffield we have two large, vibrant, multi-disciplinary community CAMHS Teams, as well as a diverse range of Specialist CAMHS teams who we work closely with.

As a Clinical Psychologist, as well as being part of the MDT community CAMHS team, you will join the Large Psychological Services (PS) Team. This brings together all the Psychological Practitioners across Core and specialist CAMHS, Inpatient CAMHS, Paediatrics and our Neurodevelopment services and includes Clinical Psychologists, Systemic and Family Therapist, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists, CBT Therapists, Art, Music and Drams Therapists. This provides a rich environment for professional support and opportunities for CPD.

Main duties of the job

To provide a qualified specialist clinical psychology service to children, young people and their families referred to Sheffield Community CAMHS To provide specialist psychological assessments and therapy within the service, at the same time as offering advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures To develop and maintain effective working relationships within the multi-disciplinary team To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service. To contribute to training and service improvements while continuing to develop specific skills appropriate for the service area

Job responsibilities

Your role will be to provide a specialist clinical psychology service to children, young people and their families referred to Sheffield Community CAMHS and youll be working with individuals, families and in groups conducting assessments, and delivering formulation and intervention. You will also work alongside colleagues to contribute to service development, and support our staff through training, consultation and supervision.

Experience of working with Children, Young People and their families is welcome, as well as skills in assessing and supporting those Autistic Spectrum Conditions or ADHD. We are committed to supporting substantive training and development for our PS staff. We also prioritise day to day learning and there are a number of established forums in place to provide professional support, development, and clinical supervision, including daily multi-disciplinary Huddles.

Preceptorship: We would welcome applications from both experienced Clinical Psychologists and those who are more recently qualified and may not yet be ready for an 8a role who we would support through the preceptorship process.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuro-psychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the BPS Further specialist supervision in specific psychological approaches and or client groups supported by case presentations, group supervision and short courses. as part of an agreed personal development plan Registration with the HCPC as a Clinical Psychologist (or other relevant domain as agreed by the Director of Psychological Services)

Desirable

Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology Additional training and experience in neuropsychology

Experience

Essential

Experience of specialist psychological assessment and therapeutic interventions with children and young people with neurodevelopmental and/or neurological difficulties and their families. Experience of working with a wide variety of child neurodevelopmental difficulties (Autism Spectrum Disorders, Learning Disability, ADHD etc) and neurological problems ( epilepsy) across the full age range, reflecting all levels of severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse. Demonstrate further specialist training/experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a specialist clinical psychologist over a minimum of 18 months, or an alternative agreed by the Director of Psychological Services Commitment to multi-disciplinary team working - team player

Experience of working within the area of speciality Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision. Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration. Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS. Skills in providing consultation to other professional & non-professional groups. Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology. Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the HCPC & BPS.

Desirable

Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (, LD, ADHD, complex syndromes, neurological problems). High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies. Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health. Formal training in supervision of other psychologists.
