Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to trauma-informed care in a community mental health setting, currently undergoing a process of transformation, in which the expectations of the work will be broad and varied. Main duties of the job

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and compassionate Clinical Psychologist to work as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team.

You should be able to demonstrate an enthusiasm and willingness to work proactively in both multi-disciplinary teams and within a multi-agency context. This role provides excellent opportunities for a newly qualified clinical psychologist in developing skills in both direct and indirect team working, within a supportive team of experienced psychological therapists.

The job will involve working alongside experienced MDT colleagues to offer one-to-one evidence-based psychological interventions to service users and their families, contributing to and delivering group work. The role also includes joint and indirect work with colleagues (team formulation, staff training, support and consultation around psychological issues); and appropriate audit, service development, evaluation and research activities as required.

The post will suit a candidate with experience of work with adults with complex presentations, such as psychosis, bipolar disorder, complex trauma and personality difficulties. The psychological therapies team includes both clinical psychologists and CBT psychotherapists who offer a range of interventions including CAT, CBT, EMDR, ACT, family work, DBT-informed work, and CFT.

Job responsibilities

To provide a qualified specialist clinical psychology service to service users of the North Community Mental Health Team. To provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy at the same time as offering advice and consultation on service users psychological care to psychologist/therapist colleagues, non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non-professional carers.

To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to service users formulation, diagnosis and treatment plans, through team formulation, reflective practice, and other meetings. To work well and develop good professional relationships with a range of colleagues to develop and deliver the service.

In common with all Clinical Psychologists, to receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with good practice.

To take sole professional responsibility and exercise autonomous professional and clinical judgement within the overall framework of Trust, HCPC, & BPS policies/guidelines/standards.

To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service.

To maintain professional registration as a Clinical Psychologist (practitioner psychologist) with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Person Specification

Knowledge

Essential

oSkills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.

Desirable

oKnowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies for working with people with psychosis, personality difficulties, and complex trauma.

Qualifications

Essential

oPost-graduate, doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the HCPC and/or BPS. oRegistration as a Clinical Psychologist with the HCPC.

Desirable

oAdditional, post-qualification short courses.

Experience

Essential

oAbility to work with service users presenting with complex psychological difficulties, including psychosis, bipolar, complex post-traumatic experiences, and personality difficulties. oDemonstrable evidence of being able to work effectively in multi-disciplinary settings and teams and possessing good professional interpersonal skills.

Desirable

oExperience of teaching, training and/or supervision. oExperience of working within a multicultural framework.
