Job summary

An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, enthusiastic registered Children's Nurse to become the Lead Nurse on PCCU and have oversight of the Neonatal Surgical Unit (NSU). This is a 6 month' temporary post from start date.

The successful post holder will have excellent communication skills, provide strong leadership and line management for over 100 staff (across both areas), ensuring that care of the critically ill neonate and child is of the highest quality and make sure there is full compliance with all national and local guidance.

You must possess and be able to demonstrate outstanding and progressive leadership qualities to take critical care forward on a journey of excellence. You will have a proven track record of change management that has involved successful implementation of service improvement.

The post holder will need to have exceptional paediatric critical care knowledge, skills and experience and you will be expected to demonstrate your skills to your team/s by regularly performing full clinical duties.

This a key role within the Care group and you will be working closely with the Head of Nursing and Associate Director to undertake strategic planning, to drive forward future developments in PCCU and NSU.

You must have currentNMC registration and be a Registered Children's Nurse, as well as having a Master's Degree in a health-related subject or equivalent level of experience.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide leadership and line management to the Paediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) and Neonatal Surgical Unit (NSU), ensuring that care of the critically ill neonate and child is of the highest quality and standardised in accordance with local and national guidance, policy, and service specification. This includes responsibility for effective operational and financial management of the services ensuring this is in line with plans for the wider Care Group.

The post holder will undertake strategic planning to drive forward future developments in PCCU and NSU in collaboration with the Head of Nursing, Clinical Director and Associate Director. This includes the oversight of robust clinical governance procedures across the teams.

Job responsibilities

To lead on all aspects of clinical care, providing colleagues with a high level of expertise and knowledge to the Paediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) and Neonatal Surgical Unit (NSU)

To role model behaviour to colleagues within the teams in the delivery of dynamic practice that is both research and evidence based. Act as a clinical expert directing care independently and appropriately and acting as a clinical and managerial resource for junior doctors and ward areas.

To develop plans of care following a patient centred approach in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team. This includes ensuring that parents/carers and the child (when appropriate), can agree and/or negotiate care and that families are supported during the period of their childs critical illness.

To manage a high degree of clinical risk within the team providing supervision and ongoing support to all team members. This includes responsibilities for assessing and recognising emergency situations within the teams and supporting colleagues holding the cardiac arrest bleep.

Provide input and support to colleagues within the teams around children with complex needs and where diagnosis is complex.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

Registered Paediatric Nurse Master's degree in a health-related subject or equivalent level of experience Intensive Care Course APLS/NLS provider A clinical expert, either through formal qualification or extensive clinical experience pertinent to the area
