Are you an experienced senior nurse who is passionate about supporting staff and developing the nursing workforce? We have an exciting opportunity to undertake a temporary new role of Professional Nurse Advocate (PNA) Lead across the Trust.

The role involves overseeing and developing a cohesive approach to promoting the introduction of Professional Nurse Advocates within the Trust and across the nursing workforce, developing and implementing a Restorative Clinical Supervision framework. Focus will be on ensuring all nurses have access to restorative supervision to support their wellbeing at work.

You will work with staff at all levels across the organisation, Educational Learning and Organisational Development (ELOD), Health and Wellbeing Leads, Chief Nurse, Senior Nurses, departmental managers/educators to ensure the implementation of Professional Nurse Advocacy, it's success and sustainability.

You will also work with the regional PNA advisory team, participating in relevant networks to share best practice and learning and developments across the region.

You will be a role model and ambassador to promote wellbeing and empowerment of nurses and support them to deliver quality improvement initiatives in the workplace, inspiring a culture of improved patient safety and experience outcomes for service users and staff.

Main duties of the job

Job responsibilities

Oversee the implementation of professional nurse advocate (PNA) practice across the Trust by developing a clear PNA restorative clinical supervision (RCS) model to support, supervise, and coach practitioners in practice. Focus will be on sustaining colleague wellbeing at work.

Set professional standards for restorative clinical supervision, ensuring it is conducted throughout the Trust, maintaining records and implementing systems for live PNA register maintenance and Trust-wide and external reporting.

Create standard operating procedures and guidelines related to the PNA framework. Ensure colleagues follow these procedures through developing education programmes.

Work together with Nursing leadership teams to ensure all nursing colleagues have access to restorative supervision and to support PNAs in their roles.

Provide leadership to colleagues, being a source of advice regarding the PNA role. Support colleagues in the PNA role offering guidance and empowering them to deliver restorative supervision. This includes establishing a steering group to create a network for programme development.

Person Specification Qualifications and Training
  • RN Child (RSCN) / RMN/RN (Mental health) registration Professional Nurse Advocate qualification Educated to Masters level or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through a combination of in-depth experience, post- graduate or post registration study and/or courses Recognised leadership/mentorship/coaching course
Experience
  • Significant post registration experience Experience of working with a range of stakeholders; both internally and externally
Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy, active listening and provision of advice Ability to write evidence based reports for a range of different audiences Self-motivated and able to work under own initiative and prioritise workload Ability to influence and negotiate with colleagues to reach solutions and problem solve Able to manage complexity and work in an ambiguous or changing environment IT literate including sound knowledge of MS Office software such as; Excel, Powerpoint etc Ability to work effectively within a team, developing positive relationships with others and working collaboratively to achieve shared goals and objectives
