We currently have a Secondment position for a Senior Sister Charge Nurse for Ophthalmology

In this role, you will support the delivery of strong visible clinical leadership, promoting professional standards and guidance to all staff. You will ensure that the highest standards of care are maintained across the service. The role is vital to supporting quality improvement and assurance processes which underpin the provision of safe and effective, care.

Main duties of the job

Taking continuous responsibility and accountability for the 24-hour management and organisation of the department. This involves managing a wide range of complex and sometimes conflicting priorities.

Provide specialist nursing advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/ clients and relatives/ carers in collaboration with the multi professional team, in line with local and national targets

At all times ensure that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of are delivery.

About us

The Ophthalmology department based on A Floor contains the outpatient clinic (with in excess of 50,000 attendances annually),emergency eye centre, glaucoma unit, low vision suite, prosthetic eye suite, orthoptics, ophthalmic imaging and electrophysiology.

This opportunity requires an individual with drive, ambition and a genuine desire to improve the lives of Ophthalmology patients through offering opportunities to be involved in high quality care in an outpatient setting .

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for the maximum period of 12 months. Where there is potential, the secondment/fixed term contract may finish early, or in the first instance, the secondment/fixed term contract may be extended due to the internal/external secondment of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and secondments in relation to the substantive post holder.

Please also note any secondment must first be agreed with your current line manager.

RGN Level one NMC registered To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998 Continuous professional development First degree or evidence of working towards one (demonstrating graduate attributes) Proven leadership experience Recognised leadership/management qualification

Extensive post registration experience in an acute clinical environment Relevant experience at junior sister/ charge nurse role Ability to lead, motivate and develop a professional team Previous experience deputising for Senior Sister / Charge Nurse Experience of service improvement and change management experience Specialist training/ experience relevant to role including: oManaging staff attendance oStaff Development /progression oDuty rosters oPatient safety Management and leadership Course

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

Ability to communicate effectively including active listening, writing, and verbally, with individuals on a one-to-one basis and with groups. Ability to work flexibly to cover the needs of the service Inc. on-call, evenings and weekends.
