Consultant in Clinical Oncology

Job summary
We are recruiting two full-time (10 PAs) substantive Consultants in Clinical Oncology to join the Oncology team at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder would be expected to work in two main tumour sites in a pan-Berkshire appointment with either a minor third site, or involvement in the Acute Oncology service. The need for the department is for the post holders to provide and continue to develop, oncology services for patients with urological, lower GI, lung, gynaecological and non melanomatous skin cancers, across East and West Berkshire. Outline job plans are provided but are adaptable, within limitations of fixed commitments and space; and there will be some flexibility on tumour site combinations according to prospective candidates' skills and interests if these align to the needs of the department.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicants will support the current delivery of Oncology including contribution to the development of these services at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. The appointee will join the existing team to provide specialist care to this growing population of patients, and raise departmental profiles through teaching and education.
The aim of the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust's Oncology Service is to become a leader in the field of Oncology management and the successful applicant must therefore have the pre-requisite procedural and leadership skills as well as teamwork, drive and ambition to succeed in achieving these goals.
This is a whole time post with Programmed Activities for Direct Clinical Care (DCCs). The initial SPA allocation will be per week however this may increase as additional responsibility is taken on.
There is an expectation that the successful candidate will work flexibly with colleagues to ensure the maintenance of a continuing high quality service meeting patient needs and to raise departmental profiles through teaching and education.
Applicants are required to have full GMC registration, and either be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT/EU equivalent certification at the time of interview.
