Job summary
Framlingham Medical Practice are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated dispenser to join our practice dispensary team.
We have two dispensary's one at our Framlingham Surgery site and one at our branch surgery at Earl Soham.
Main duties of the job
The principle duties for a dispenser is
Dispensing Ordering dispensary stock Communication with patients and staff Dispensary administration
About us
Framlingham Medical Practice is a well established Dispensing General Practice with a list size of just under 10,000 patients. We are a forward thinking practice continually exploring new areas to develop and benefit our patients.
The practice clinical team consists of4 GP partners, a salaried GP, a clinical pharmacist, 2 paramedics, an advanced nurse practitioner, 3 practice nurses, a nurse associate, 2 healthcare assistants and a Phlebotomist. Our clinical team is supported by experienced dispensary, administration and reception teams.
Research
Framlingham Medical Practice during the beginning of 2024 was approved as a research practice. The first research projects are now underway.
Training Practice
The practice is in the final stages of applying to become a GP training practice.
University students- We are proud of our association with the University of Cambridge and the University of East Anglia. The practice takes 2 final year student cohorts from both universities giving them General Practice experience.

Job responsibilities
MAIN PURPOSES
Job Summary:
Toprocess all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GPs, prescribing nurses andexternal prescribers, where appropriate, in accordance with the principles ofgood practice and following Practice Policies/Standard Operating Procedures(SOPs)
Tosupport the development of the Practice within dispensary.
Todeliver a consistently high standard of professional customer service to allpatients both in person, via telephone and electronically.
Completeall tasks assigned with a high level of accuracy
Workin accordance with strict guidelines for Information Governance and maintainstrict Patient Confidentiality at all times

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES TOINCLUDE:
Dispensing:
Ensurean acceptable of level dispensing knowledge, through having achieved NVQ(minimum level 2) Pharmacy Services Skills or an equivalent qualification.
Ensuringthat Drug Tariff knowledge is up-to-date by reading monthly amendments
Ensuringthat prescriptions are correctly issued, signed by the doctor and signed by thepatient, in line with Practice Policy and SOPs
Dispensingdrugs in accordance with Practice Policy and SOPs.
Dispensingdrugs to a high level of accuracy
Processingrepeat prescriptions, in accordance with Practice Policy and SOPs.
Dispensary Stock:
Receiving,processing and ordering stock in accordance with Practice Policies and SOPs
Maintainingadequate stocks of drugs/pharmaceuticals (based on stock control levels)
Storingstock in accordance with Practice Policies and SOPs, completing the Fridge andRoom Temperature logs as necessary
Keepingthe dispensary shelves and workstations clean and tidy, and contributing tostock checks and housekeeping, according to Practice Policies and SOPs.
Dealingwith Controlled Drugs ordering, stock control, storage and destruction, in linewith Practice Policies and SOPs
Communication:
Handlingtelephone and general enquiries; referring urgent calls to appropriate Lead.
Liaisingwith multi-disciplinary team members where necessary
Dealingwith all patient communication in a professional and polite manner
Beingaware of the reasons for dispensers explaining to patients how to use or taketheir drugs, in addition to appropriate labelling.
AttendingDispensary Team meetings and assisting with minute-taking
Administration:
Havinga thorough knowledge of, and assisting with, the maintenance of PracticeProtocols/SOPs for Dispensary staff duties
Beingresponsible for security, including the opening and closing of dispensary andsecure storage of items such as money received and prescriptions
Endorsingprescriptions at time of dispensing.
Assistingwith counting prescriptions for the end of month returns procedure
Recordingconstructive comments and complaints in accordance with Practice Policy.
Recordingand reporting any Incident/Accidents/Near Misses in accordance with PracticePolicy (ensuring that all drug related incidents are recorded in theDispensary/Drug Incident reporting book).
