Job summary

We are looking for a Deputy Team Leader to assist in the management of the day to day resources to enable the support and assistance of the multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of all aspects of patient care. They will have to maintain a supportive learning environment enabling the team to meet the evolving needs of the service, assist in budgetary and stock control to ensure the provision of a high quality and cost effective service.

The post site is based on the Wrightington site and is for both Anaesthetics and Recovery, however cross site working at Wigan is required as part of the role when service requirements need.

Main duties of the job

Assist in the management of the day to day resources to enable the support and assistance of the multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of all aspects of patient care and accept the responsibility and accountability for the performance outcomes. To maintain a supportive learning environment enabling the team to meet the evolving needs of the service, assist in budgetary and stock control to ensure the provision of a high quality and cost effective service. To provide a high standard of patient care and skilled expert assistance in all specialities and areas as required. Act as an ambassador for the department in professional settings. Be accountable for the standards of practice within the theatre team promoting a professional patient centred approach to care. Acting as a resource of specialist professional knowledge bases for the team, through application of theory in practice. Assisting with promoting the delivery of evidence based patient focused care. Recognises the appropriateness of transferable skills when providing individualised patient care. Identifying, maintaining and improving the quality of care through facilitation of evidence based practice. On-Call

Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.

Assisting with the development of competencies (in self and team) which safeguard practice and effectiveness in role(s) and lead the team as a credible and accountable practitioner. Ensuring compliance with NMC/HPC Codes of Conduct. Demonstrating understanding of the effective use of allocated resources / funding. Demonstrating an understanding and working knowledge of skill mix. Demonstrating and participating in development of the service to meet demands, and adapt to the changing needs of the service. Empowering self and team to creatively meet professional and organization objectives. Promoting safe systems, which assure all aspects of risk reduction, compliant with Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the agenda for Clinical Governance. Maintain Clinical and managerial records in accordance with current guidelines ensuring adverse incidents arereported to the appropriate person without delay. Maintaining Health and Safety, and Control of Infection in clinical areas in line with trust policies and procedures. Delegate tasks to the team members that reflect their level of competency. Qualifications

Essential

Registered Nurse/ODP with current NMC/HCPC registration. Academically accredited post registration theatre scrub / anaesthetic /PACU qualification, as appropriate to role. Evidence of continuing professional development.

Desirable

Degree/Diploma achievement Surgical First Assistant qualification Vocational assessor qualification -D32/33/A1 award. RCN Leadership or equivalent Management qualification. Mentorship/Teaching Qualification

Experience

Essential

oExtensive perioperative experience in scrub/anaesthetics or post-anaesthetic care, as appropriate to role. oEvidence leadership skills/experience. oCurrent teaching and assessment skills. oEvidence of implementing change in clinical practice.

Desirable

Evidence of auditing standards of care Proven record of change management Extensive leadership and junior management experience. Competent in the use of intraoperative cell salvage

oHighly developed interpersonal, verbal and non-verbal & communication skills. oDeveloped analytical and problem solving skills. oEvidence/Application of leadership skills. oAbility to plan and prioritise own and other's workload. oEvidence of ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team. oDemonstrate ability as a professional role model. oHighly developed clinical skills as appropriate to role. oStandard keyboard skills and use of health care IT packages such as, ORMIS,HIS etc.

oSound understanding of principles of Clinical Governance (NatSSIPs, Risk Management & Audit) relating to perioperative practice. oSound knowledge of factors affecting efficiency in the perioperative care. oSpecialist clinical knowledge within own discipline of perioperative practice, as appropriate to role.

Desirable

Broad range of surgical specialties & disciplines across perioperative area HR processes and policies Knowledge of requirements around financial/budgetary responsibilities
