The Vacancy

Binnies are recruiting for an experienced Ecologist to lead and expand our team of ecologists in Redhill.

You will get the opportunity to work on a wide portfolio of projects, from nationally significant infrastructure projects to landscape scale restoration. Our portfolio of work includes flood, coastal and maritime projects and a range of other sectors such as ports, water utilities, transport and renewable power.

One of our newest projects is SESRO (South East Strategic Reservoir Option). SESRO is a 150 million cubic metre reservoir near Abingdon, which is also seeking to provide opportunities to create new habitats and increase biodiversity, as well as providing new leisure and recreation facilities. .

We are a close team and have an active Ecology Community of Practice and pride ourselves on being at the forefront of ecological best practice and innovation. Our ecologists work closely with our multi-disciplinary teams and shape projects to deliver more sustainable solutions and maximise Biodiversity Net Gain.

Binnies is a registered Ecological (CIEEM) and Landscape Practice (Landscape Institute) and hold the IEMA EIA Quality Mark, which is a benchmark of our high standards in Ecological and EIA delivery. 

About the Role

Mentoring and guiding more junior ecologists; Helping to drive the ecological capability and innovation of our national team; Managing all stages of Ecological Impact Assessment from feasibility to delivery and monitoring; Providing ecological input into planning, HRA and other consents; Overseeing protected species licence applications and mitigation; Design of habitat restoration/creation schemes and delivering Biodiversity Net Gain; Supporting tenders; Leading field surveys in your technical areas; Providing a key interface with project teams, clients, stakeholders and the public as required.

Qualifications/Requirements

The role is suitable for an experienced Ecology professional with full membership of CIEEM. You should possess and be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and knowledge:

have an ecological/environmental related degree; be, or working towards, Chartered Ecologist or Environmentalist; hold a protected species licence or have another ecological specialism; proven experience in ecological impact assessment; have excellent written and oral communication; hold a full UK driving licence; previous consultancy experience is desirable.

We would welcome applicants of Senior Level and above and we can flex salary based on grade and experience. We are also happy to adapt the role to your preferences – e.g. more field based, office based or a mix. Start date is flexible.

Hybrid/flexible working is also available.
