We are seeking an experienced Ecologist to lead and expand our team in Redhill. As a key member of our Ecology Team, you will have the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects, from nationally significant infrastructure schemes to landscape-scale restoration initiatives.
Our portfolio includes flood, coastal, and maritime projects, as well as sectors such as ports, water utilities, transport, and renewable power. We are currently working on SESRO (South East Strategic Reservoir Option), a 150 million cubic metre reservoir near Abingdon, which aims to create new habitats and increase biodiversity while providing leisure and recreation facilities.
As a collaborative and close-knit team, we prioritize ecological best practice and innovation. Our ecologists work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver sustainable solutions and maximize Biodiversity Net Gain.
Binnies is a registered CIEEM and Landscape Practice (Landscape Institute) and holds the IEMA EIA Quality Mark, ensuring high standards in ecological and EIA delivery.
About the Role- Mentor and guide junior ecologists;
- Drive ecological capability and innovation for our national team;
- Manage all stages of Ecological Impact Assessment from feasibility to delivery and monitoring;
- Provide ecological input into planning, HRA, and other consents;
- Oversee protected species licence applications and mitigation;
- Design habitat restoration/creation schemes and deliver Biodiversity Net Gain;
- Support tenders;
- Lead field surveys in your technical areas;
- Interface with project teams, clients, stakeholders, and the public as required.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- An ecological/environmental related degree;
- Chartered Ecologist or Environmentalist membership;
- A protected species licence or another ecological specialism;
- Proven experience in ecological impact assessment;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- A full UK driving licence;
- Previous consultancy experience is desirable.
We offer a salary range of £60,000 - £80,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications. Hybrid/flexible working is available, and we can adapt the role to suit your preferences.
