Job summary

Children and Young People's Psychological Service (CYPPS) Blackpool is looking for an enthusiastic Senior Clinical Psychologist to join our busy community service for children, young people and their families.

We are a friendly and supportive team of Clinical Psychologists aiming to deliver high quality and innovative psychological solutions with service users through consultation, parent workshops, individual, systemic/family, and group work. We offer a range of psychological therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (and Third Wave), Eye movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Video Interactive Guidance (VIG), Systemic Therapy. The service is co-located with other Blackpool children's services including School Nurses and CAMHS and we contribute to a single point of access for children's mental health in Blackpool.

Main duties of the job

As a valued member of our team you will be supported in developing an area of clinical interest that is relevant to the employed role and service. There is ample opportunity for peer support and supervision (1:1 and intervention specific) locally and across the region covered by the trust. We actively support our team members in accessing development opportunities, which includes specific therapies training and, where appropriate, support towards accreditation.

There will also be opportunities to support the broader aims of leadership activity through indirect work, delivering teaching and training, and service development/audit activities. We have good links with the North West Clinical Training courses and encourage staff to offer core and specialist placements. All clinical psychologists have an agreed Job Plan which protects their core clinical commitments and allocated time for agreed projects.

This post is offered as an 8a with some flexibility around hours (minimum of hours, a job share would be considered). Alternatively we can offer this post as a B7 to 8a development post (preceptorship). For staff appointed at Band 7 we will support the development of competencies in clinical supervision as part of a professional development plan. The post is predominantly office based, but with some opportunity for remote working.

Qualifications

Essential

Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the BPS. Current registration with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical)

Knowledge

Essential

Doctoral level knowledge of clinical psychology Skills in the use of highly complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration. A high level of ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to children and young people, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS. Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups. Knowledge of child protection and other key legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and supervision regarding work with children, young people and their families/carers.

Experience

Essential

Experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist with children, young people and their families, presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings. Experience of working systemically with family and carer groups and establishing the most effective methods of working with children, young people and their carers. Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified autonomous practitioner and also within the context of a multidisciplinary treatment plan.
