  • As aCommunications Officer you will deliver a firstclass range ofcommunications activity focusing on contributing to key strategiccommunications campaigns and engagement work across a range ofchannels while supporting traditional and social mediamanagement.
  • Youwill also support the council by providing media relations supportincluding responding to enquiries from themedia.
  • Working on several creativeprojects at one time you will ensure that all communicationsactivity is evaluated to show its impact by creating managing andmonitoring plans and providing quantifiable data through a varietyof methods to track the success of theactivity.
  • Supporting the SeniorCommunication Officers and Communication Leads you will help toidentify and support the council s promotional campaignsbehavioural change programmes and projects to maximiseopportunities.
  • You will have a realunderstanding of council services to spot opportunities and makerelationships with key staff within theorganisation.
  • You will understandthe news agenda both locally and nationally to make sure the countycouncil is exploiting every opportunity and reacting to the storiesof the day.




Ability to develop creative ideas and editorial across all forms ofcommunication and editing input for a range of platforms. Abilityto write effectively for a range of audiences and communicationchannels including for the web and social media. Developedcommunication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively witha range of clients/stakeholders and create and maintain effectiveworking relationships. Strong problem-solving skills with theability to anticipate problems and resolve issues independently andmaking sound pragmatic decisions. Ability to manage and prioritiseworkloads effectively, in response to changing demands, and to meetdeadlines. Excellent literacy and numeracy skills to understand andinterpret research data and customer feedback and present analysisin the most appropriate way. Relevant degree, or equivalentqualification e.g. NCTJ, or equivalent experience. Relevanttheoretical and practical knowledge of processes, procedures andpolicies associated with working within a demanding communicationsservice. Knowledge of communication methods, including socialmedia, to effectively contribute to changing campaign objectives.Understanding of the media landscape and management of mediasensitive issues. Understanding of the political landscape andpolitically sensitive issues. Experience of working on a variety ofcommunications activities, particularly in a public sectorenvironment. Also, of working in a rapidly changing environment.Experience/confidence of dealing with a range of people andservices and planning on more than one campaign at a time.Experience of handling and responding to media enquiries. Sound andaccurate IT knowledge e.g. Microsoft Office, to accurately analyseinformation/data.
