  • As a Night Worker at Refuge, you will manage your own time and caseload. You will work intensively with a number of clients to provide frontline services to individuals residing in refuge accommodation and during their resettlement as they move on to independent living. Your role will be concerned with managing risk, increasing safety and developing independent living skills of your allocated client base whilst in refuge and during the early stages of their new tenancy.
  • You will be responsible for the identification of support needs via a needs and risk assessment and will work with your clients to develop SMART targets as part of a support plan which you will review on a regular basis.
  • You will provide emotional and practical support via 1:1 sessions and support clients to access other services within the community.
  • You will act as an advocate for your clients, working collaboratively with other agencies and professionals to ensure that individual needs are met, and outcomes achieved. You will represent the service at multi-agency meetings such as Family Action Meetings and Core Groups where required.
  • Great Torus people share qualities we value highly. They are problem-solvers, able to work well within our team. They are open, honest and committed to doing the right thing at all times, and they always look for ways to do things better, focused on making sure we achieve our aims. If you can share our way of working, you’ll enjoy working with us.
  • In return, we offer a modern workplace that is challenging, supportive and gives you room to grow your skills – along with a package of benefits that shows how much we value your contribution and care about your wellbeing.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Complete assessments and reviews for individuals and deliver support which is outcome focused and which promotes independence.
  • Develop, plan and deliver 1:1 sessions with clients either in the Refuge, their own homes or by assisting to access services with the local community in line with their assessment and support plan.
  • Plan and assist with client resettlement into communities; completing home visits and liaising with other professionals and services to maximise sustainability of tenancy
  • Ensure residents are adhering to the guidelines and conditions of occupancy and carry out first and second level warning for breaches whilst in Refuge.
  • Provide assistance, information and support to callers of the 24-hour helpline and carry out emergency admissions where required.
  • Complete agreed client-based records, contact sheets, and safeguarding logs.
  • Support with in house Domestic Abuse training
  • Facilitate tenant engagement activities, seeking tenant feedback.
  • To promote safety and protection of vulnerable adults and children by ensuring that all safeguarding issues and concerns are reported promptly in accordance with St Helens Borough Council’s and Torus Safeguarding Policies.

  • To attend partnerships meetings, including Family Action Meetings, Core groups and Case Conferences where required.
  • To ensure that handover information is distributed in a timely manner and information for reports such as MARAC updates are shared to Refuge Coordinators and the wider team where required.
  • Maintain the security of the building and keep occupants safe, ensuring clients are aware of health and safety issues and behave in a way that promotes good health and safety for themselves and others in refuge services.
  • To have a positive attitude to both Torus and towards your own learning and development, and proactively seek opportunities to develop professional competencies including IT skills.
  • To attend internal training, team briefings, team meetings and corporate updates.
