Research Associate In Genetic and Cancer Epidemiology

London, United Kingdom University of Bristol Full time
The role

We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate with experience in genetic epidemiology applied to cancer and/or sleep research to support an important project investigating the role of sleep in breast cancer. The study will use data from the “All of Us” resource, a large and diverse US health database. The post holder will be working directly with Dr Rebecca Richmond as part of the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit (IEU) and CRUK Integrative Cancer Epidemiology Programme (ICEP) at the University of Bristol. They will be based within the University of Bristol’s Department of Population Health Sciences, a leading UK centre for data science research, and through Dr Richmond, will be linked with two inter-disciplinary networks within the university: the Bristol Cancer Research Network and Sleep and Circadian Rhythm Hub.

What will you be doing?

The researcher will be involved in the curation and analysis of data from electronic health records and wearable devices within the “All of Us” study to investigate prospective associations between objectively-assessed sleep measures and breast cancer. The project will also integrate genetic data to explore genetic associations with sleep measures and to conduct Mendelian randomization analysis for understanding the causal role of sleep in breast cancer development. Since the cohort comprises a large sample of racial and ethnic minority participants, the project will also investigate whether sleep impacts breast cancer differently depending on ethnicity.

It is expected that the postholder will curate and analyse datasets, write and publish papers, present at conferences and other scientific meetings, attend training activities, and help with student supervision. Support and guidance will be given to the researcher in developing their own research ideas and writing their own fellowship and grant applications.

You should apply if

You are a researcher seeking to develop a career in cancer epidemiology and interested in improving our understanding of the role of sleep and circadian rhythm disruption in the development of breast cancer. The role will suit a researcher with good knowledge and experience of applied statistical analysis, genetic epidemiology and Mendelian randomization.
