Job summary

We have some exciting opportunities to work in the SunderlandMental Health Support Team (MHST), and are seeking to recruit enthusiasticmotivated individuals to be part of our growing team.

The MHST is a relatively new service and works acrossdesignated schools in Sunderland supporting children and young people betweenthe ages of 5 to 18 years in providing low-intensity interventions, group work.We also work with parents and carers as part of this in addition we offer trainingand advice and support to our schools.

If successful you will be basedlocally at the Hetton Centre, but work on a regular basis at designated schoolsacross Sunderland

To undertake one of these roles you will need to be a qualified/experiencedEducation Mental Health Practitioner

The MHST is aservice offered 52 weeks per year Monday to Friday 9 am- 5 pm, The base is atthe Hetton centre, but the service is delivered across school and communitysites

Job responsibilities

To work as a member of the Mental Health Support Team(Healthy Heads), providing assessment and evidence based interventions based ona Low Intensity CBT model to Children and Young People with mild to moderatemental health difficulties and their parents / carers

To build relationships with education staff and key stakeholderswith the aim of embedding whole school approach, promoting early interventionand preventative emotional wellbeing work, and developing positive mentalhealth culture within school environment

To provide consultation advice and signposting. To deliverhigh quality evidence based training and support to Education providers withinallocated schools

To develop and support implementation of Whole SchoolApproach within school setting to embed a positive emotional health culture andethos.

To provide support toEducation Mental Health Practitioners (EMHP) with developing their clinicalskills, competence and practice, including supporting trainee EMHPs withrelevant clinical experiences. To provide support to EMHPs to plan and deliver Whole School Approachactivities within their school and support school engagement

The role of the Senior Education Mental Health Practitioner includes working in partnership with existing services, including:

Universal Services including; Education, Voluntary, Public and Health sectors.

Targeted Services such as Education Psychology, Sexual Health, Family Intervention Team, Adult Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol Prevention.

Specialist Services for instance Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Service.

Providing individual and group work using brief therapeutic tools and models

Offering consultation, advice and signposting that will ensure, where appropriate children, young people and their families are referred to services that will meet identified needs

Contribute to development of clear referral pathways that support the emotional health and wellbeing of children young people and their families

Developing a systematic approach to prevent children from developing mental health issues.

Developing testing and reviewing innovative education and training concepts, models and practices to support the Emotional Health and Wellbeing of children, young people, staff, parents, carers and the wider community.

Providing education and raising awareness of childrens emotional and mental health issues to key stakeholders

Involving children, young people and their families in reviewing current service provision and delivery

Identifying children who are at risk of developing mental health issues and in doing so ascertaining the needs of children and young people.

Identify how coping strategies for children, young people and their families, who are considered to be at risk can be implemented

Qualifications

Essential

Professional registration and qualification. Qualified Education Mental Health Practitioner To be educated to degree level or equivalent

Experience

Essential

Experience of working in a community setting At least 2 years clinical experience Experience of working with schools and knowledge of the education system A good working knowledge and experience of Safeguarding

Skills and Knowledge

Ability to complete comprehensive mental health assessments and plan, implement and evaluate specialist packages of care for children, young people and their families To have the ability to work independently and to develop appropriate interventions and care pathway Knowledge of mental health issues Therapeutically competent Ability to work flexibly in a variety of environments

Physical skills

Daily use of computers to retrieve information, data input and word processing. Moves / manoeuvers equipment within Trust guidelines using appropriate aids
