Job summary

The Patient Access Team within the Health Records Department processes requests from patients and their representatives for access to their medical records. This process is defined by the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Access to Health Records Act 1990 and is a legal duty of the Trust. The team processes a large and varied range of requests and works closely with other Trust departments including the Legal and Information Governance teams.

Main duties of the job

The Patient Access Assistant provides an essential support and administrative service to the Patient Access Co-Ordinator. The postholder is responsible for the issuing of application forms, completion of a daily log of all incoming messages, opening incoming post, use of PAS Mediviewer software to interrogate the patient record and identify information relevant to the request. In addition, liaising with Health Care Professionals to secure consent for the release of records and contacting patients by phone or email when necessary.

This is an extremely varied role; no two days are the same. You will have contact with a wide range of teams and individuals across theTrust. Opportunity to develop a range of skills in a small, friendly team.
