StratforduponAvon, United Kingdom Royal Shakespeare Company Full time

Do you have excellent, persuasive writing skills? Are you interested in a career in trust fundraising? Can you work in a small and dynamic team? Do you have the ability to work to strict deadlines?

The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) creates exceptional theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, London and around the world, performing plays by Shakespeare and his contemporaries, as well as commissioning a wide range of original work from contemporary writers. Our purpose is to ensure that Shakespeare – and theatre as a whole – is for everyone, and we do that by unlocking the power of his plays and live performance, and with our learning and education work throughout the UK and across the world.

To support our ambitions, we are looking for a Trusts Officer to join our established and high performing Trusts and Grants team, sitting within the Development department. Over the past year the Development department has grown to 30 members, working together to achieve an income target of £8 million in 2024/25 (rising to £10m in 2025/26); Trusts and Grants income accounts for c. 20% of this.

As a Trusts Officer you will be responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of small and medium-sized trusts, to raise revenue and capital income for all elements of the RSC's work.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing, writing, and submitting high quality applications to small and medium-sized Trusts (expected to be in the region of £1,000 to £20,000).
  • Growing and managing a portfolio of trusts, including maintaining existing supporters, re-engaging lapsed donors, and identifying/engaging new prospects.
  • Ensuring excellent stewardship of funders by sending high-quality evaluation reports, updates, and event invitations, and arranging project visits and theatre tickets.
  • Assisting the Senior Trusts and Foundations Manager and Head of Grants in producing larger persuasive and inspiring grant proposals.
  • Representing the RSC at events, with a focus on building relationships with small and mid-sized trust donors and prospects.
  • Researching prospects with the aim of building an extensive and varied pipeline of small and medium sized trusts.
  • Working with colleagues in the Development department to ensure connected approaches across all teams.
  • Supporting colleagues with high quality and efficient proofreading.

The ideal candidate will have strong, persuasive writing skills, be detail orientated and able to work to strict deadlines, ensuring applications are submitted within set timeframes. We are looking for someone who is seeking to hone their skills as a Trust Fundraiser, or transfer their relevant skills and experience, within an exciting and varied role at a major theatre company. You might already do some fundraising work, either on a voluntary or employed basis, or you might have secured funding to deliver a project in your community, either way, if you are passionate about the arts, have a great work ethic and are keen to expand your skills and knowledge, then we want to hear from you.

This post can be based in Stratford-upon-Avon or London and is offered as a full-time, permanent contract, working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Occasional weekend and evening work will be required when supporting at events and shows.

Access and Inclusion

We are committed to cultivating a diverse and inclusive workplace culture, and welcome and encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds, identities and lived experiences.

We offer support and resources to aid access to the application and interview process, as well as the role itself, should you be successful. To discuss in further detail, please contact jobs@rsc.org.uk - we would be delighted to talk with you.

Application Process

All applications should be made online using the RSC website.

The role will close at midnight on 25 April. The first round of interviews will take place online on 2 May and second interviews will take place in person on 8 May.

About the RSC

The RSC strives for excellence, and values integrity, inclusion, ambition, and innovation. We act with respect, show leadership, and build resilient ways of working in all our activities.

We can offer great benefits and aim to create a welcoming, supportive environment which is happy, healthy, and safe. We place great importance upon developing a diverse, highly motivated, and energised workforce to help achieve our priorities. We put our values at the heart of everything we do.
