Winchester, United Kingdom Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job summary

As our Specialist Dietitian you will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of a comprehensive and responsive specialist dietetic service for young people with eating disorders.

Serenity Path hospital and Blake Day service offers Inpatient and Day programme services on a purpose-built site on the outskirts of Winchester. As the specialist dietician you will be supporting the nutritional health and wellbeing of young people admitted to Serenity Path Hospital and those who attend the day service programme. You will work as an important and respected member of the multidisciplinary team, and work closely with the Lead Nurse for Nutrition and Eating Disorders.

Candidates should be a Registered Dietitian with substantial clinical experience in dietetics, and a keen interest in development and knowledge of the national drivers for Eating Disorders and nutrition within a young person's inpatient unit. A desire to achieve change and implement redesign based on best practice is essential.

Main duties of the job

The clinical aspect of this role includes full assessment of nutritional needs; providing input to formulation meetings and management of physical health. Involvement would also include supporting supervision and development of policies and procedures, highlighting the specialist dietetic knowledge that may be included. We are looking for someone that has experience of paediatric dietetics or someone that has previously worked within mental health services. You need to be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills and be able to be a strong voice for the nutritional health and well-being of the young people. The unit has a trust catering dietitian and catering team responsible for overseeing the menu, however it is essential that good liaison takes place to ensure the meals and snacks provided continue to meet the young people's needs.

In addition to the wide range of clinical duties the post holder will have the opportunity to participate in service development, audit, research activities, pathway development and ongoing training needs of the clinical teams.

About us

Southern Health is one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK, specialising in mental health and learning disabilities, as well as offering physical health community-based services.

With a workforce of more than 7000 and a footprint that spans more than 200 sites across Hampshire, we're committed to providing the best possible healthcare, reaching a range of diverse communities, whilst placing patients and staff at the forefront of all our endeavours.

We are currently working closely with other NHS Trusts to combine all our collective community, mental health, and learning disability services, with the plan to create a new larger, more integrated and accessible organisation.

The transformation will happen in stages; Hampshire CAMHS, part of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust joined Southern Health in February 2024, with Isle of Wight NHS Trust mental health and community services transitioning across in May 2024. The final combination of Southern Health and Solent NHS Trust services is expected in late 2024, when our new organisation, to be known as Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, will be formed.

Our new Trust will continue to cater to the unique needs of different communities, making healthcare across the county more accessible, as well as offering staff more opportunities for career development, training and partnership working.

Join us as we embark on this exciting journey to shape the future of healthcare in Hampshire.
