Main duties of the job

An exciting unique opportunity has arisen for someone who wishes to develop their career in NHS working for the Thames Valley & Wessex Neonatal Critical Care (ODN) Team to lead on some of the key deliverables of Neonatal Critical Care transformation.

The ODNs are established to deliver whole system work programmes based on the NHS Outcomes Framework and quality standards expressed in NHS England specifications to drive improvements in patient Thames Valley and Wessex Neonatal ODN footprint covers 14 provider units within 13 NHS Trusts.

The post holder will provide expert opinion and consultancy support where appropriate for TV&W Neonatal ODN focussing on medicines optimisation, standardisation and supporting strategic planning on neonatal medication issues.

You will be joining a team who are passionate about NHS service quality improvement for families receiving care in neonatal services. We are therefore looking for enthusiastic and innovative people with excellent communication and a good understanding of neonatal services. This role will be supporting the delivery of the TVW NCCR Implementation plan across the region and requires excellent leadership skills and experience of strategic working within the NHS.

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for leading, managing, strategically developing, and delivering highly complex and specialist medicines management services related to newborn preterm and term infants and their families. Contributing to the wider health communitys management of neonatal patients and influencing pharmacy practice. Provide expert advice at a highly specialist level on pharmaceutical matters relating to neonates. Support the development of guidelines in neonates. Lead, plan and undertake clinical audit and research within the specialist area, undertaking commercial research for the trust where appropriate. To work with the Network Manager, Professional Leads and Network board to agree on a range of medicines management priorities and monitor key deliverables and purchasing of medicines that will be embedded within the Network NCCR Implementation Plan. To develop and lead the implementation of national neonatal medicines optimisation recommendations across the TV&W ODN.

What we are looking for

Evidence of extensive recent post-registration hospital neonatal pharmacy practice experience at an advanced level. Ideally include previous experience in a teaching hospital and also previous experience working in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Highly specialist knowledge of drugs used and therapeutic trends within specialist areas. Experience working as part of a regional/national group for guideline/policy/change development.

Qualifications / training required

Essential

Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Accredited as (or working towards) a Consultant Pharmacist or at Advanced stage II at RPS faculty level. Leadership course/module or recognised Leadership qualification/ equivalent experience Evidence of extensive Neonatal CPD in line with professional body neonatal competencies and maintenance of a personal, professional portfolio Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy Member of Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacist Group (NPPG) Evidence of Highly Specialist knowledge of neonatal parenteral nutrition in both preterm and term neonates Registered as an independent prescriber with the GPhC

Research degree (MSc, MRes, PhD) or working towards this qualification
