We have an exciting opportunity for a Strategic Equality and Involvement Lead to join our team at Wessex Cancer Alliance and lead the change towards more inclusive and equitable care for patients and their families who receive treatment and care for cancer across Wessex. As our strategic lead you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of cancer services. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement strategies that promote diversity, equality, and inclusivity across all facets of our organisations and their partners. You will collaborate with healthcare professionals and providers, and community stakeholders to address unconscious biases, dismantle barriers to care, and champion initiatives that foster a culture of respect and fairness.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

WHAT YOU’LL DO

To lead and develop the delivery of a transformational equality and involvement strategies to support the Alliance’s objectives, ensuring the work is well understood by Wessex Cancer Alliance colleagues and shared across the Dorset and Hampshire/Isle of Wight Integrated Care Systems.

To contribute to the development of the Alliance and its continual improvement in operational performance, with specific responsibility for the equality and patient and public involvement strategies. This includes analysing and interpreting complex data sets, developing and implementing appropriate responses to support improvements.

To take the lead role in all equality and patient and public engagement activities, acting as the principal adviser on these and related issues to the Alliance Board, the Managing Director, Senior Team and staff.

- VCSE partners across Hampshire and Dorset

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

To actively promote a culture of system level engagement and empowerment of patients and the public that positively influences service design and delivery and addresses health inequalities.

Work across NHS services and ICSs to develop shared understanding and implementation of actions that address health inequalities.

To succeed in this position, you should have a deep understanding of healthcare disparities, cultural competence, and the social determinants of health. Your exceptional leadership skills, along with your ability to collaborate and communicate effectively, will enable you to inspire change and mobilise teams towards a shared vision of equality in cancer services.
