Deputy Postgraduate Dean

Working closely with the local Postgraduate Dean for Thames Valley and Wessex, this role of local Deputy Postgraduate Dean will support local strategic and operational leadership for the delivery of high-quality training across the Thames Valley and Wessex geography with a primary focus on secondary care training.

The Deputy Postgraduate Dean is a senior clinical leader within the wider South East system, developing and maintaining key relationships with senior colleagues from across NHS England and Improvement, Integrated Care Systems, service providers, HEIs, regulators and beyond, ensuring that our work addresses health inequalities in the populations we serve and reflect changing service models to enhance education and training opportunities

The role of Deputy Postgraduate Dean embraces corporate, statutory, and non-statutory functions across Thames Valley and Wessex. Working alongside the local and wider NHSE teams and within strong local communities of educators, the role embraces a range of functions and is focused upon improving patient and trainee safety and experience and supporting service transformation.

The successful applicant will be expected to provide strategic leadership with Postgraduate Dean to develop training opportunities and meet the aspirations of the key NHSE initiatives including expansion and distribution of specialty training posts and enhancing doctors working lives. The postholder will also act as Deputy Responsible Officer to ensure the statutory GMC functions are delivered and act as key liaison for local Trusts and Schools for secondary care training.

This post is advertised as 4 sessions and will form part of a job share with an existing postholder with time committed to both offices.
- Act as an ambassador for Workforce, Training and Education within NHSE
- Support the wider NHS strategy across the South East and specifically Thames Valley and Wessex, working as part of the joint regional leadership team and collaborating across organisational boundaries
- Act as a clinical educational leader at regional and national levels
- Ensure the quality and safety of learners and learning environments
- Support and ensure high quality delivery of postgraduate medical and dental education for Thames Valley and Wessex working across both the South East and with HEE South West (Wessex)
- Work with Regional leadership team to support development of services, particularly remote, rural and coastal developments and support the expansion of specialty and foundation training
