Job summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate psychologist to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team in supporting patients living with obesity. ABUHB Weight Management Team comprises of both an Adult and Childrens Service, although this post will be working with adult patients you will be working closely with the wider WMS team members.

In this role, you will provide psychological assessments, individual and group therapy, and develop personalised intervention plans aimed at promoting sustainable lifestyle changes. Collaborating closely with dietitians, physicians, and other healthcare professionals, you will address the complex psychological, emotional, and behavioural factors contributing to obesity.

The ideal candidate will have experience in health psychology, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to empowering patients on their journey to improved health and well-being.

Main duties of the job

This post will develop, manage and deliver the psychological service for ABUHB's Adult Weight Management Service (AWMS). The service will work proactively with adults who need support to manage their weight including staff who support them.

It involves conducting psychological assessments and the delivery of appropriate therapeutic interventions for the full range of referred difficulties accepted by the service. This includes, face to face work with individuals, groups, significant others, and consultation work advising staff of other disciplines on the psychological aspects of casework and service user interventions.

To conduct and supervise research and audit, and to develop and evaluate new clinical and psychological programmes, as a major responsibility of the job. To participate in relevant research/ audit groups, as required by the Family and Therapies Directorate.

To contribute to the development of new psychological services for Adults requiring support for weight management and participate in service planning as appropriate, and advise the Head of Service on these issues.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

HCPC Registered Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, accredited by the BPS, or equivalent accredited by the BPS. Training in clinical supervision.

Desirable

Completion of a post-qualification advanced training in a formal psychological therapy.

Experience

Essential

Extensive Doctorate training across a range of client groups but must include Children, Adults, people with Learning Disabilities, and Older Age Adults. Substantial post qualification clinical experience in psychological services in a physical health setting. To have a developed an advanced level of clinical expertise in at least one area of clinical practice within the psychology in physical health service trauma, acquired disability, adjustment, family and relationship difficulties, cognitive changes, changes to body image and functioning ( ACT based interventions, family interventions, EDMR, supervision and consultation)

Desirable

Extensive post qualification experience of working with adults requiring weight management support. Experience of working in a multi-agency/disciplinary team.

Skills

Essential

Is familiar with current legislation regarding weight management services and is aware of developments in it. Ability to provide direction through supervision, teaching and training to other psychologists, disciplines and agencies
