Job summary

We are a very friendly team looking for aPractice Nurse to come and join us. We require someone who can workflexibly and as part of the nursing team across our Alfreton and Blackwell site.

They willbe expected to work collaboratively within the general practiceteam to meet the needs of patients and to provide safe, holisticevidence based care following Practice Policy and procedures.

Main duties of the job

We are ideally looking for someone who hasexperience in the following areas:

Cytology Wound care Removal of Sutures/clips ECG's Administration of injections including B12, contraceptives and hormonal therapy Asthma Reviews COPD reviews Venepuncture Hypertension Management Ear Syringing Routine/Childhood and Travel Immunisations Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings Contraceptive reviews Anticoagulation - INR management

About us

We are a very friendly team and hardworking practice based in Alferton and Blackwell.

Our practice consists of three Partners, Associate general practitioners, advanced clinical practitioners, nurses, healthcare assistants in our clinical team. As well as out Practice Manager, Assistant Practice Manager, Care Co-ordinator and Reception/Admin team.

You will be working closely with the team to achieve the highest level of care towards our patients

The Practice is an established teachingPractice and has an active role in training medical students and GP Registrarsand has a strong focus on continuous development and improvement at all levels.It has funded a number of Practice Nurses to attain a prescribing qualification.

JOB SUMMARY

To work flexibly as part of the nursing team, working at Limes Medical Centre and you may be asked to work at Blackwell Medical Centre. Working collaboratively with thegeneral practice team to meet the needs of patients, providing safe, holisticevidence based care following practice policy and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Working in a clinic setting providing care including but not exhaustive:

Wound management Venepuncture Doppler/Compression Ear syringing Adult immunisation Administration of routine injections Health promotion Childhood Immunisations Routine Immunisations Cervical Cytology Chronic Disease Management: COPD & Asthma Hypertension Management Travel vaccinations and advice ECG Chaperoning/assisting doctors with minor surgery/IUD fitting Family Planning Computer recording of clinical data using Systm One Knowledge and experience of Quality & Outcomes Framework

Communication

To work effectively with the integrated nursing teams to provide qualitynursing care throughout the Practices.

Communicate effectively with other team members Communicate effectively with patients and carers recognising their needs for alternative methods of communication.

Personal and people development

Take responsibility for own developmental learning and performance, including participating in supervision Take responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal development Work with management on any new training requirements To recognise and understand the roles and responsibilities of individuals working in the primary health care team

Health, safetyand security

Use the personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines Identify the risks involved in work activities and undertake them in a way that manages the risks Use appropriate infection control procedures and maintain work areas in each clinical room so that they are clean, safe and free from hazards, reporting any potential risks identified, including:

1. Hand washing

2. Universal hygiene procedures

3. Segregation and disposal of waste materials

4. Decontamination of instruments and clinical equipment

5. Reporting and treatment of sharps injuries

6. Dealing with blood and body fluid spillages

7. Assisting patients and colleagues in adopting sound infection controlmeasures

Understand, apply & manage the principles of the cold chain Ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and drugs within area of responsibility Know the general principles of first aid and resuscitation to be able to undertake initial actions as appropriate Be aware of statutory child health procedures and statutory local guidance and referral criteria Know the health and safety policies and procedures within the workplace, including fire procedures, maintaining documentation, monitoring and maintaining of equipment and furniture within your area of responsibility Use the computer safely Be able to identify the risks to health of microbiological and chemical hazards within the working environment according to the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health

To work within the guidelines set by CQC to ensure that the Practice is safe, efficient and provides the best possible care for patients.

Qualifications

Essential

NMC registered Experience working in a GP practice * Cytology * Competent in: * Ear syringing * Assisting immunisations/Childhood immunisations * Assisting GPs with minor ops surgery and coil fittings * Contraceptive reviews * At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records * Attend and participate in practice meetings * On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits * Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post

Desirable

* Cytology * Wound Care * ECGs * Administration of injections including B12, contraceptives and hormonal therapy *Asthma Reviews * COPD Reviews * Venepuncture * Ear syringing * Routine/Childhood and Travel Immunisations * Anticoagulation - INR management

Experience

Essential

Working as part of an integrated multi skilled team. Minimum 2 years post-registration experience Recent primary care nursing experience.
