The East Kent Place of Safety is based at St Martins Hospital in Canterburyand manages admissions of individuals who have been detained under section 136 MHA 1983 (as amended 2007).

Main duties of the job

You will fulfil the role of Nurse in Charge within the Place of Safety, attending to your patients' needs whilst ensuring a safe environment for excellent care. You must be able to support the needs of our patients, their relatives and carers; which requires excellent communication and liaison must have post-registration experience including working within a busy acute environment and have completed mentorship training to be able to mentor will be involved in and contribute to the Mental Health Act assessment completed as part of the Section 136 process. You should have the confidence to voice your opinion and views as part of a multi-disciplinary team. You will be working with a wide range of experienced and friendly professionals, providing high quality of care and compassion.

You will also have excellent interpersonal skills to manage and supervise staff effectively.

Job responsibilities

Supporting patients to function to their optimal ability in their This will range from encouraging self care to providing total physical care depending on the needs of the patient. Maintaining and promoting a safe environment taking account of infection control and identifying and reporting hazards and risks in a timely manner Escorting and transporting patients as required as part of their care Driving unit vehicles as per needs of the service and as individual capabilities Depending on the environment, serving food/assisting with cooking and promoting healthy choices as required to meet individual care plan Working a full range of shifts as per the requirements of the May also be required, at times, to work at other Trust units and/or sites.
