PURPOSE OF ROLE:
- Engage with all employees to promote, the Barnwood HSQE policies and operational standards and to ensure their positive adoption across all sites, workshops and offices.
- To offer expert knowledge and skills to engage, generate and promote a positive health and safety culture throughout Barnwood.
- This represents a key role in helping control occupational risk and risk to health.
- Responsible for ensuring that all occupational health, safety, and environmental legislation is adhered to.
- Help to plan, implement, monitor, and review the protective and preventative measures that Barnwood is required or chooses to follow, and work to minimise operational losses, occupational health problems, accidents and injuries.
- To promote the digitisation of Barnwood HSQE processes.
- To Improve quality management on site by utilising construction software.
- To be able to promote Barnwood’s HSQE standards within tenders and PQQ’s.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Engage employees to promote, coach and educate the Barnwood HSQE policies and practices and that they are adopted.
- Maintaining and developing safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards.
- Developing practical and effective methods, both preventative and remedial, of promoting health and safety and safe working practices.
- Improving Quality Management on site utilising construction software
- Carrying out regular site inspections / Audits checking policies and procedures and HSQE objectives are being properly implemented.
- Implementing and training teams in the use of HSQE Software.
- Preparing health and safety strategies and developing internal policy
- Completing risk assessments and implementing risk reduction control measures.
- Self-development, as per Barnwood performance management and CPD framework.
- Engaging with managers and teams to eliminate conflict between production, site and client considerations.
- Assisting with in-house training with managers and employees about HSQE issues and risks.
- Keeping records of inspections, findings and producing reports that suggest improvements.
- Attending institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) seminars and reading professional journals.
- Liaising with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with mandatory regulations.
- Producing reports, newsletters and bulletins.
- Carrying out accident investigations on site and producing subsequent reports and recommendations.
- Ensuring the safe installation of equipment.
- Advising on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases.
- Supporting the HSQWE team in promoting and communicating Barnwood’s HSQE standards within tenders and PQQ’s.
SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURS:

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
- IOSH, and NEBOSH qualifications.
- Previous experience in Health, Safety and Environment at Lead/Senior Advisor level.
- Demonstrable competence in the implementation of short to medium-term improvement plans.
- Proven leadership skills particularly in the management of change.
- Proactive attitude and approach.
- Ability to prioritise and organise your workload.
- Ability to Travel / Current Valid Driving licence.
- Ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Good reporting and writing skills.
- Proactive Digital and IT software skills.
- Must have effective influencing and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Must have experience of supporting line managers in discharging their health and safety responsibilities.
DESIRABLE QUALITIES AND COMPETENCIES:
- Previous experience in Construction and Shopfitting
- Willing to travel.
- Enjoys working with people from different professional and trade backgrounds.
