Role summary:

The Head of People Transformation (HoPT) reports to the Director of People Strategy & Transformation (DoPST) and is responsible for leading on the development and delivery of First Bus-wide people-centric change initiatives designed to drive cultural transformation; and the design and implementation of structural changes to increase organisational effectiveness and agility.


Drawing upon their extensive HR, change and organisational design experience, the HoPT will work collaboratively across First Bus with the People team, First Bus Strategy & Transformation team and First Bus Leadership Team (FBLT) to lead / support delivery of people change programmes in addition to operating as a ‘centre of expertise' (CoE) for the People team, providing coaching and guidance on change management methodologies and supporting on localised change activity as needed.


The HoPT will ensure we achieve smooth transitions during periods of change, foster a culture of adaptability and resilience amongst those involved; and collaborate closely with key stakeholders to develop and implement change management strategies that align with First Bus goals and values.


The HoPT will role model leadership and provide a high challenge/high support approach to people team members and management and leadership teams across First Bus. They will act with integrity and promote First Bus values and behaviours (‘our way') across their area of responsibility and the broader business.


Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities:


People Change programmes / initiatives

  • Lead on or support the development and implementation of designated people change programmes and initiatives (including restructuring, M&A and integration activity) to support transformational change and achieve business objectives. This includes the development of business cases and ensuring robust benefits tracking processes are in place.
  • Partner with Heads of People, the First Bus Strategy & Transformation team and FBLT as appropriate to assess the effectiveness of current organisational / team structures, processes and systems, identify areas for improvement and develop future-fit organisations and teams
  • In conjunction with key stakeholders, develop and deliver change management plans including communication strategies and training and development interventions to ensure successful adoption and implementation.
  • Assess the impact of proposed changes, identify potential risks and challenges and develop plans to mitigate them.


Organisational Design frameworks

  • Develop and maintain organisational design frameworks and tools to guide consistent and scalable approaches across the business
  • Collaborate with CoE colleagues in Reward and Talent Acquisition to ensure that organisational design initiatives are aligned with reward / job architecture principles, talent and succession planning, and workforce planning efforts.
  • Ensure a consistent approach is adopted across First Bus in relation to the development of Job Descriptions, in line with organisational design principles


Governance, measurement and continuous improvement

  • Ensure robust governance frameworks are in place to support delivery of change programmes / initiatives, with alignment to First Bus Strategy & Transformation processes
  • In conjunction with the First Bus Strategy & Transformation team and DPST, develop and maintain metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of people change efforts and track progress against organisational goals.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of change programmes to gather feedback and insights, identify areas for improvement and inform continuous improvement initiatives.


Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Act as a strategic advisor to the People team and FBLT on people change matters, providing insights, recommendations and guidance to enhance change management capabilities, facilitate decision-making and drive change adoption.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in change management, organisational development and HR, and proactively recommend innovative solutions to address organisational challenges and opportunities.


Personal Specification (role experience / skills and qualifications


Experience

  • Established HR generalist with experience of driving large-scale cultural transformation and organisational change in complex environments; and using different models of delivery
  • Strong understanding of organisational design principles, change management methodologies (Agile etc.) and best practices,
  • Experience in project management, including defining scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, budgets and managing project resources; and the creation of robust business cases.
  • Able to manage cross-functional teams and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Professionally qualified; and membership of a relevant professional body desired.


Personal Skills & Qualities
