The Regional Business Manager Role
Reporting to the Group Regional Director, this is very much a senior hybrid role, whereby you will effectively lead our flagship Northwest Regional Distribution Centre.
With P&L responsibility for the site, your core focus will entail managing sales, procurement & logistics functions, ensuring consistent focus to deliver sustainable and profitable growth aligned to the company strategy. Day to day, you will utilise all your management experience to get ‘hands on’ with influencing and delivering all aspects including service excellence, highest operational standards, cost optimization, new business growth, sales initiatives and customer engagement. Underpinning all of this will be the need to develop a motivated team and maintain high moral within the business.
Regional Business Manager Key Responsibilities
- Lead by example, providing consistent leadership and direction to the team to create a high-performing team culture; engage your teams to demonstrate our company values, embedding them into the way you operate.
- Lead all commercial sales and operational activities such as sales, sales development, customer retention, customer growth, procurement, operations, logistics, and supply chain.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and internal departments, to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
- Ensure effective utilisation of the Innovation Lab at site by members of the team in providing consultative service and solutions to customers
- Create and implement a business plan for the centre in conjunction with the Director
- Maximize both sales and profit responsibly by being aware of the profit implications of selling stock products as opposed to non-stock products.
- Conduct key account management duties, including strategic account reviews where appropriate.
- Analyse, interpret, and communicate financial and commercial information to monitor your site's P&L performance in line with budgetary and balanced objectives.
- Identify & explore potential alternative sources of income/revenue generation to help maximise site profitability
- Work in a constructive manner and promote co-operation between departments and functions, other sites including national accounts, contributing to best practice synergies.
- Proactively manage the performance (including talent management and succession planning) of all direct reports through effective implementation of company policies and procedures.
- Oversee the recruitment process for all positions within the business, working closely with HR and hiring managers to ensure the timely and effective sourcing, screening, and selection of qualified candidates.
- Operate with full operational accountability and responsibility for your site, effectively managing your time to ensure H&S, Security, and People practices are up to date and compliant.
- Promote and drive an excellent health and safety culture, understanding incident trends and follow-up actions.
What you will bring to the role
We are looking for a talented individual who has balanced experience of both general site management and commercial sales leadership. You must have ideally held a similar senior ‘hybrid’ role in the past and made it a success. It would also be preferable if you have managed a similar size and scale operation in the past. Packaging specific experience is not essential (although advantageous), we would however favour experience within a fast-moving distribution business. What’s important is that you can credibly lead the local sales function whilst effectively managing the overall site. You will reside less than an hour from our site in Heywood and hold a valid UK driving licence (please note we do also welcome interest from applicants genuinely seeking relocation to the area). Naturally, you will be a highly motivated, enthusiastic and commercially astute individual with a passion for sales and first-class service delivery.
We welcome and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds irrespective of your age, gender, disability, race, nationality, ethnicity, gender identity, religion, or sexual orientation. Should you require any specific support or adjustments during the recruitment process, please email our recruitment team directly.
What you will get
We provide a competitive basic starting salary and operate a range of rewarding bonus/incentive schemes. Our flexible employee benefits package can include: -
- 25 days annual leave (rising to 27 days with service) plus all public/bank holidays
- Additional Holiday purchasing scheme (run annually)
- Contributory pension scheme
- Free parking at most of our site locations
- Annual (company paid) volunteering day
- Range of company cars or cash allowance (including hybrid/electric) for qualifying job roles
- Employee assistance program to support & advise with well-being & any issues
- Extensive range of training/development & potential progression opportunities
- Employee discount scheme (discounts on several major retail/leisure brands)
- Simply Health/Dental Cover option or BUPA cover for qualifying roles
- Enhanced HR policies relating to various employee rights & entitlements
- Long service awards (5-40 years)
- Charitable giving options
- Financial support with eye-tests/purchasing glasses (DSE users only)
- O2 Mobile discount scheme (up to 25% off)
- Candidate referral scheme (awards £750 for referring successful applicants to Macfarlane job vacancies)
How to apply/next steps
This is an urgent appointment whereby we will be working to identify and review the very best of applicants swiftly in the hope of selecting the successful candidate to commence with us ASAP. Please note that Macfarlane Group supports ‘hybrid working’ where possible and we often conduct our first stage interviews via video. To make an application please simply click ‘apply’ ensuring that your CV is up to date and relevant.
All applications will be acknowledged, shortlisted applicants normally hearing from us within a week or two. Unsuccessful applicants will also be notified at the end of our process, although if you haven’t heard from us within 2-3 weeks of applying, please assume your application has been unsuccessful.
