About us

Foresight Data Machines (FDM) makes software for the steel industry. We use machine learning, optimisation, and modern design to make products that solve billion dollar allocation problems. Our flagship product, ScrapChef, is used in daily production at leading steel producers.

We are a high performance group working in a flat hierarchy to deliver exceptional results. We come from a variety of backgrounds including AI research, physics academia, quantitative finance, and successful exits of consumer and B2B tech startups.

About the role

The Senior Account Executive role is full-time, based in our Central London office, but involves significant travel to existing and prospective customer’s steelmaking sites in Europe and North America.

As an exceptional salesperson, you'll drive all aspects of revenue growth. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of sales, with experience developing and closing complex enterprise deals to expand FDM's market in the USA and Europe. You'll have outstanding relationship-building skills and a proven track record of meeting sales targets in a fast-paced environment - preferably within traditional or slow-moving industries.

We engage with prospective customers at events and expos, then guide them through our sales process with presentation pitches and demos. The sales cycle includes technical proof-of-concept studies, featuring a two-day on-site visit. You'll work closely with our product engineering team to lead prospective customers through these studies. This approach allows you to demonstrate ScrapChef's ability to meet and exceed requirements while building valuable, long-lasting customer relationships.

Things you should know:

  1. As our first dedicated salesperson, you'll collaborate directly with our CEO, COO, and cross-functional product/engineering team to transition from founder-led sales to a thriving revenue engine. You'll undertake the entire sales process - from lead generation to deal signature - ensuring we meet our revenue targets and growth objectives.
  2. You will spend significant time with prospective customers at customer sites and marketing events. This includes spending time on the shop floor at manufacturing facilities.
  3. You will be empowered to make meaningful decisions that are not limited by job domains or onerous processes.
    • In the office, you'll dedicate your time to prospecting and managing active deals, focusing on what you deem most crucial for achieving the company's objectives.
    • During site visits and events, you'll need to think quickly and make autonomous commercial decisions.

About you

We are open minded about exact professional experience and university qualifications. That said, we do expect:

  • Several years of experience developing and closing enterprise-level, large-sized, complex deals for an early-stage, product-led startup.
  • A proven track record of success in driving significant revenue growth.

Additionally, we expect that you:

  • Are excited by the prospect of traveling and working directly with customers in steel plants worldwide.
  • Are conscientious, pragmatic, and high-energy in your sales approach. You close deals.
  • Have a passion for solving complex problems with software and eagerly engage prospective customers in discussions about how our product can help them achieve their goals.
  • Thrive as part of a cross-functional team and can clearly articulate your reasoning to others.
  • Take initiative, demonstrate exceptional reliability, and enjoy significant autonomy, including self-direction in your work.

Finally, as many of our potential and existing customers are outside of the UK, language skills are an advantage. Particularly any of German, French, Spanish, and/or Italian.

Compensation

Total compensation is a highly competitive base salary + commission, made up of salary and stock options.
