Sales Director – Sports Rights Holder


Our client is a high profile, leading sports rights holder with a diverse portfolio of premium sporting properties. They operate in a mainstream area of the sports industry, providing innovative and engaging content that resonates with global audiences. The leadership team is passionate about sport and are committed to driving commercial success through strategic partnerships and innovative sales solutions with global brands and partnerships. As part of their ongoing growth and development they are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Sales Director to join their motivated and talented team and help lead their sales efforts.


The Role:


As the Sales Director, you will play a pivotal role in driving revenue growth and expanding commercial partnerships. You will be responsible for leading a sales team, developing, and executing sales strategies, and securing high-value deals with sponsors, partners, and digital platforms. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned sales professional with a deep understanding of the sports rights market to make a significant impact. Key Responsibilities will include:


  • Sales Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage the sales team, setting clear objectives and targets. Foster a high-performance culture that drives results and encourages innovation. Above all this is a role for a sales leader who is capable of ‘leading by doing’.
  • Strategic Sales Activity: Develop, implement, and personally deliver comprehensive sales strategies that align with the company’s overall business objectives. Identify and capitalise on new revenue opportunities across broadcast, sponsorship, and digital media.
  • Client Acquisition: Build and maintain strong relationships with key partners, including broadcasters, brands, and digital platforms. Identify and engage potential new clients, delivering tailored sales pitches that align with their needs and objectives.
  • Contract Negotiation: Working with the retained sports marketing agency, lead high-level negotiations with existing and potential partners, securing favourable terms that maximise revenue and align with the company’s strategic goals.
  • Revenue Growth: Drive the achievement of sales targets, ensuring that revenue goals are met or exceeded. Monitor sales performance and implement corrective actions where necessary.
  • Reporting & Analysis: Provide regular reports to senior management on sales performance, pipeline development, and market insights. Use data-driven analysis to inform decision-making and strategy adjustments.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including marketing, legal, and content teams, to ensure that sales strategies are aligned with overall business goals and operational capabilities.


This is an attractive opportunity for an induvial with the following skills, experience, and attributes:


  • Experience: Extensive experience in a senior sales role within the sports industry, ideally with a sports rights holder, broadcaster, or sponsorship sales. A proven track record of securing high-value deals (seven figure deals) and driving revenue growth.
  • Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of the sports rights commercial and sales market.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage a sales team. Experience in developing and executing successful sales strategies and leading by doing.
  • Negotiation Skills: Strong negotiation skills with a track record of closing complex, high-value (seven figure) deals. Ability to navigate contract negotiations with confidence and finesse.
  • Strategic Vision: Ability to think strategically and develop long-term sales plans that align with broader business objectives. Creative problem-solver with the ability to adapt to changing market conditions.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Passion for Sport: A genuine passion for sport and a commitment to driving success in the sports industry.
