Purpose

Manager level role that provides a comprehensive and proactive HR service to Ono, partnering with the business to ensure effective employee management, compliance, and development. The role is pivotal in driving HR operations and strategies aligned with business objectives and enhancing employee engagement as well as providing support to the HR Director for business continuity purposes. The role will also support the HRD in mentoring and training our HR Administrator (50% FTE).

OPUK operates a hybrid working pattern of 3 days in our Holborn offices (Wednesdays mandatory) and 2 days working from home.

Ono is a global pharmaceutical company of approximately 3,800 employees. The UK site is currently a small affiliate of around 45 staff of whom approximately one third are secondees from our Japanese HQ. We are, however, currently undergoing significant change as Ono moves towards a more globalised operating model and expansion of geographical coverage.

This role will be a central part of the professionalisation of the HR function, both locally and as part of global change initiatives.


Accountabilities

  • Collaborates with Ono's HR Team and business leaders.
  • Accountable for proposing, planning, and executing HR objectives and initiatives to drive success.
  • Manages immigration related activities for incoming and outgoing expats, including Certificate of Sponsorship applications in line with Home Office guidance and requirements.
  • Oversees the maintenance of HR records and systems, ensuring these are completed and updated accurately by the HR Administrator.
  • Provides input into the creation of HR Business Plans for OPUK.
  • Processes local and modified ex-pat payroll accurately in line with OPUK process and HMRC requirements.
  • Leads annual benefits renewal ensuring best terms are negotiated for OPUK.
  • Works with HRD to embed Ono's new annual performance cycle activity, compensation review and annual benchmarking exercise.
  • Ensures smooth HR operations, including onboarding/offboarding, employee relations, query handling and performance management while adhering to legal and compliance standards.
  • Continuously enhance HR processes, policies, and procedures to optimize employee engagement, organizational efficiency, and maintain compliance with UK legislation.
  • Works collaboratively with OPHQ to continue to enhance the functionality of the Workday HRIS.
  • Assists and participates in HR projects, local and global.
  • Contributes to developing a sense of belonging to the UK office, identifying high performers for growth. Supports senior management and the HRD in fostering employee engagement, team building, and talent development.
  • Leads on recruitment processes for OPUK, identifying best methods for high quality talent acquisition to meet OPUK business need.
  • Participates in and works to drive local cultural activity such as the OPUK culture ambassadors group.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with internal business leaders, employees, and external partners such as recruiters, benefit providers and legal advisors.
  • Ensures effective communication, collaboration, and alignment to achieve HR and business objectives whilst maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
  • Engages with frontline managers, senior leadership, and external partners to facilitate seamless HR operations and strategic initiatives.
  • Acts as first line HR contact for employee relations issues such as absence and grievances, handling these sensitively and appropriately, enabling the HRD to remain an escalation point if so required.


Knowledge & Experience

  • Foundational Knowledge: Bachelor’s degree in human resources/Human Resource Management or equivalent and relevant work experience
  • Level 5 CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) or at least Associate Membership of CIPD
  • Generalist Experience: Progressive roles across a wide range of HR disciplines and activity
  • Solid I.T. skills and knowledge of HRIS (ideally Workday)
  • Healthcare or pharmaceutical experience would be an advantage
