About the role:
The post holder will be responsible for contributing to and supporting the Museum's work to secure income from a range of philanthropic supporters including individuals and private trusts.
The Philanthropy Officer will manage and cultivate a portfolio of major gift prospects to generate philanthropic income for the Museum's fundraising priorities and to deliver an exceptional donor experience. They will maintain a rigorous attention to detail in delivering high quality applications and reports to donors and prospects.
Team:
The Advancement Department plays a vital role in advancing the Museum's mission, reach, and impact fundraising for an array of exciting projects and activities. You will be joining the Philanthropy Team which has a track record of securing donations from a variety of supporters including philanthropic individuals and charitable foundations.
Key areas of responsibility:
- To raise funds for Museum priorities in line with agreed annual income targets, managing their own prospect pipeline, with mentoring and support from the Philanthropy Manager
- To proactively manage a pipeline of c. 75 contacts, developing and implementing bespoke cultivation and stewardship strategies for each one and deepening their relationships with the Museum
- To research and write persuasive fundraising proposals for core activity and priority projects at the five-figure gift levels
- To work closely with the prospect research function and the wider Philanthropy team to identify new prospects for major gifts
- To attend cultivation and stewardship events, and identify existing donors with the capacity for additional giving
- To meet with prospects either alone or with colleagues, including to present fundraising proposals
- To arrange meetings between the Advancement department, curators, other relevant Museum colleagues and prospects and to follow-up in a timely manner
- To develop effective working relationships with Museum colleagues including curators, senior representatives and advocates
- To ensure the highest standard of donor care; through effective stewardship, financial gift management, thanking, reporting and acknowledging
- To adhere to internal processes and procedures for fundraising, reporting, financial management, information management across the Philanthropy Team
About you:
The successful candidate will be an effective face-to-face fundraiser with experience of securing high value donations and managing the full lifecycle of significant donor relationships.
You will be highly motivated and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines and financial targets, with excellent communication and people management skills. Strong administrative and organisational skills are essential for this role.
